Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

I wonder if the above marriage is on Ancetry please, the image that is. I am trying to work out if Francis is male or female I have the family on a tree of mine that was sent many years ago by a relative and they are not with us anymore.

the parents were william hood and mary nee Brown and Francis was baptised in 1829.

I have found a transcription that says francis was married to a Ann Hanson but I am not sure if this is the one I am after or not hence my request.

thanks in advance

John

Ancestry has a collection called:

There is an image of the marriage registration.

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

Terry, Francis had a brother born 1838, I believe he married a Elizabeth Plackett in 1859,

Please could you check I have the following correct. Elizabeth died in 1862 aged 24.

William then married someone called caroline prior to 1871 but looking at this census they had a daughter Martha in 1868.

looking on the GRO her mmn was Plackett.

Caroline was 14 years older then William but I can fgind no trace ofg a marriage to caroline nor another with the maiden name Plackett.

just wondering have I found the wrong family on the census of 1871 and hence elizabeth was still alive or do you think when william registered Martha's birth he used Plackett by mistake if he did, what was caroline's name prior to Hood?

John

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

There are a good number of family trees on Ancestry for these families, none of which I have verified. They include William Hood, Elizabeth Plackett, Caroline & Martha. None has a surname or marriage for Caroline.

Some say Caroline is the Caroline Wood buried at Breaston 1907 aged 83.

You would need to do your own research based on your own family insights.

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

I should have said Caroline Hood.

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

Hi John

If you look at William and Caroline Hood in the 1871 census you'll see that they're living next door to a Mark Plackett who had a wife Jane. The very last household at the bottom of the page is that of a William Plackett, butcher, who is about the right age to be Mark's brother.

The marriage record for Mark and Jane says his father was called William. Caroline was born ca. 1824 and there's a baptism for a Caroline Plackett 3 August 1823 with parents William and Martha. In the 1841 census we have Caroline (age rounded to 15) living in Breaston with William Plackett - a publican - Martha and various siblings including William, a butcher, age rounded to 20.

There is a marriage 8 April 1844 Derby for a Caroline Plackett to a William Hale, lace worker (transcription says Hale but his signature looks more like HALL) and it says her father was William Plackett, publican. There are baptisms in Breaston for an Edwin Hall (1844) Elizabeth (1846) and another Elizabeth (1848) with parents William and Caroline. The first 2 confirm the father was a lacemaker.

Possible burial in Breaston 13 June 1847 William Hall aged 26.

1851 Caroline Hall, widowed seamstress is living in Breaston with Edwin (6) and Elizabeth (3)

1861 Caroline Hall, widow, inn keepers daughter aged 37, is back living with her parents William and Martha in Breaston.

Like you I couldn't find a marriage for Caroline to William Hood though, only the 1859 one for William to Elizabeth Plackett (nee Smith) who died in 1862.

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

Do you think Caroline is Elizabeth's older sister and then is which case wouldn't a marriage of william to Caroline be illegal so even though they put married on the census couldn't actually get married wonder what it says on Martha's birth cert fir parents

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

Hi John,

No, I don't think that Caroline was Elizabeth's sister. The transcription of the William Hood / Elizabeth Plackett marriage says that her father was William Smith, framework knitter.

Re: Francis Hood marriage in 1847 in Notts

Hi John,

There’s a transcription of Martha’s baptism on FreeReg. 10 Oct 1869 Breaston, Martha Hood, born 21 May 1867, parents William Hood (labourer) and Caroline.
