I am trying to establish a family connection to Joseph Rutter, Northumberland Fusiliers, who was KIA in WW1 died 20 Sep 1917.
Could someone find him in the 1911 Census please and give me the names of his family members.
My maternal Grandfather's brother, Edgar Robinson, married a Mary Rutter in 1918
The Rutters were a Handsworth / Richmond family
Will see if I can find his army records and death on cwgc website. When Mary married how old was she? Presume you think Joseph and Mary are brother and sister

Hi again John
Mary was 36 when she married on 30th September 1918
At the moment I am open to suggestions re who Joseph is related to
Commonwealth War Graves Commission has no kin details. But includes service number 16227.
Ancestry has:

1911 census
Consider:
Mary Rutter, mother, 61, widow, married 36 years, 9 children, 7 alive, 2 died, born Wigan Lancashire.
Joseph Rutter, son, 26, single, coal miner, worker, Handsworth Parish, York.
9 Richmond, Sheffield
Good afternoon John S, Terry Stock and Dave T and many thanks for your information
All those pieces of the jigsaw fit together, well done.
Joseph fought and died for his country and it appears the lad has been forgotten, how sad, that is unless I can track down descendants.
His name is commemorated inside Handsworth Church and on a stone memorial outside.
Present day Richmond is a large area of 20th century housing.
There is a present day location called Sea Breeze Terrace which I believe to be the location of the old village.
Joseph's sister Mary, was on the 1891 census which shows the family living in Handsworth and father..John Rutter (recorded as Rutten) is still alive (D:1898). Ref:Family Search
HAPPY HUNTING :sleuth_or_spy:
Joseph Rutter b 1884 Handsworth is on 15 public member trees on Ancestry.
Ps I suspect that the final army payment to mother Mary in 1919 was actually sister Ellen's share. She was alive when Joseph died but died in q4 1918. That means her share would go to her mother if she did not leave a will
