Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

Hi,

I have spent over a year searching for the identity/parentage/birthplace evidence for Elizabeth Guest. Details I have are:
Census have her from 1861 married to William Bradshaw from 1861 to her death in May 1890 (burial on this site says she was 53 years) Census says born in London, around 1839 - but being 53 at death would suggest born 1837.
I sent for the marriage certificate with William Bradshaw and this shows her father as a Thomas Guest - labourer - still alive as 'deceased' is not written with his name.

I have done thorough searches on Ancestry but am thinking this is a mystery I will not resolve. Are there any other avenues I can follow to try?
TIA
Sarah

Re: Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

Sarah,
There is no requirement at the marriage ceremony for the official, be it registrar or vicar, to ask whether the father still living. The person may or may not happen to mention that they are deceased. If they do then he may write it down, or he may not.
If it does not say deceased you cannot assume that he is still alive.
On the 1860 marriage, will you please tell us what age was given for Elizabeth, and what was her address and occupation

Re: Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

In the image of the church registration (at Ancestry) the next record is for Benjamin Raywood & Ann Hayes. The fathers of the parties are both annotated “(dec)”, with the same celebrant.
One party is similarly annotated on the previous page by the same celebrant.

It seems this was the habit of the celebrant, indicating that the Guest & Bradshaw parents were probably alive. But this is sometimes not a game of certainties.

Re: Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

Has she been found in 1841?

We covered this back in 2022 and there are a couple of threads for Elizabeth and father Thomas guest.

Might want to revist whats already been covered/found ?

Re: Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

Denise, thank you. I had forgotten that. It seems this is now the third time Sarah has asked this question and we came up with a scenario where Elizabeth Guest was illegitimate and brought up by Thomas Humble and his wife Ann. I wonder if Sarah can enlighten us why she does not accept that?

Re: Elizabeth Guest (unresolved)

Sorry,

Apologies please as I lost that part of my tree and tried searching on here for the thread but was unsuccessful. Have found it now.

Cheers
