Can anyone find info on Henry Timperley b 1923, until he married in 1948?
I did not know of Henry's existence until the 1939 Register, when he was living with his father Harry Ward Timperley, & Harry's wife Hilda, at 105 Houstead Road. Harry married Hilda in 1930, stating he was a bachelor. I cannot find a birth certificate for Henry, so cannot find who his mother was. I'm presuming he was born out of wedlock - would this be correct? Seems odd the father would take responsibility for him - perhaps his mother had died. In 1939 Henry was an apprentice steel turner, & an ARP Messenger with his father in the evening.
Considering Hannah Timperley had MANY children, by 1923, Henry would have been her only grandchild living in Sheffield - all the others were now living in Australia.

This one is a bit complicated.
Hilda Thompson had an older sister Edna who married Lewis Longmore on Q4 1922 and she had a son Henry Longmore in Q2 1923. Edna died in 1928.
In 1939 Register Lewis Longmore is in Sheffield and there is no child with him.
The birth registration for Henry Longmore is reported on GRO as Occasional Copy A which means some later change was made to the original registration.
May I suggest you purchase the Birth reg for Henry Longmore q2 1923 to see what it says about changes and also to check if his birth date matches exactly to that of Henry Timperley as reported in 1939 Register.
The birth record is available from GRO as a digital copy which costs only £3 and is available on line immediately after you pay the fee. Definitely looks like it should be a good investment.

That's an amazing find, Dave - many thanks.
So he wasn't really Hannah's grandson, after all. Though I have a sense he was considered that, in a social way.

I suspect that the birth certificate for Henry Longmore will say he was Adopted. That is one possible explanation for the “Occasional Copy A”. If that proves correct then I assume you can work out who adopted him.
