unable to locate family on 1841 census

I have entered many searches into ancestry to locate the family below on the 1841 census:

Joseph Bellamy born 1815 Derbyshire
Ann " " born 1816 Hathersage
David " " born 1839 in West Derby.

Joseph and Ann married in 1836 in Sheffield - but appear to have had their 1st born in 1839 in West Derby. The following children (after 1842) are born in Sheffield.

Is anyone able to help me locate them on the census please?

Thanks in advance

Sarah

Re: unable to locate family on 1841 census

Sarah, Ann and David are exactly where they should be on the 1841 census. Joseph is not with them.
You should google WEST DERBY REGISTRATION DISTRICT to find out where it actually is in England.

Re: unable to locate family on 1841 census

T think Dave T could be referring to Ann Bellamy 25, seamstress & David Bellamy 1 of Back Cropley (spelling) Street, both born in the county. Warrington district 13.

Re: unable to locate family on 1841 census

Dave Terry says ann not born in county on the 1841 census yet info says she was born Hathersage which i assumed would be under chapel en le Frith or bakewell. Presume then info wrongly entered by numerator.

Thanks Dave,
I did wonder if that was correct, but wasn't sure. Would it be normal that Joseph wasn't on? I haven't found him elsewhere. I suppose not everyone was captured on the census.

Cheers,

ps. I do use google maps to look at the areas, but doesn't always give a sense of distance and how people moved around in days gone past.

Re: unable to locate family on 1841 census

SarahRemember that the census is a moment in time. If a person is missing then perhaps it is because they simply did not sleep in their home on just that one night. That could be for many reasons, eg they were in another town looking for work, or perhaps, or perhaps they slept with a mistress and were left off, or many other possibilities.
To find the distance between places just Google eg Sheffield to West Derby distance.

I assume you are aware of Joseph’s second marriage.

Joseph's 2nd marriage? No he died 4 years after his wife Ann. Did you find another marriage?

Re: unable to locate family on 1841 census

Yes. All the info you need is in our records over to left.
In Parish Burials find Your Joseph- at the bottom of his record select find in same grave. That shows you just Joseph and Ann. Now at bottom of Joseph’s record select find in same household. That shows second wife in a different grave. Finally use. parish marriages (in Parish Records) to find the second.marriage with all its details.

Dave never dawned on me about same household for second marriages...I just assumed it indexed everyone in that house that is on the database ie new occupants. They say you learn something everyday
