Married 10 years, 3 children born, no deaths.

Oughtibridge, 3 March 1901.

I had seen the marriage which at first looked OK, particularly with the witness names but Fred's father was William (deceased) unless George is an error. But he is shown as single on the 1901 which was taken after the marriage date, I think!!!

Possible Fred in 1891 - living Townhead Street with sister Annie(now Mrs Plant) and also brother George.

On the 1955 West Yorkshire Electoral Register (Ancestry) there is the following.....

1572 Charlotte M Cocker
1573 George F Cocker
1574 Fred Ibbotson

Fred Ibbotson did have a sister Charlotte Matilda who married a Fred Cocker and had a son George Frederick. Is this Fred? Could anyone with access check the details. Thank you.

The marriage you quoted was at Ecclesfield but his father is listed as a Fred also.

To help us can you state Fred's birth and where they living in Sheffield.

A number of Fred Ibbotsons around. The one with a father George I found had three children born in Birmingham. It is on the 1901 census and they (George) had returned to Sheffield. May have a new wife called Kate.Living in Nether Hallam.

That was on Family Search.

Just noticed that Fred is on this sites Baptism's. It shows being born 25 Nov 1879 at 4ct Dun St, but baptism date as 29 Jan 1879 at St Jude. Is there a error on either birth or baptism

Dave when we were trying to find the LINK between your IBBOTSONS and mine I thought we had agreed that the info from the 1881 census was correct.

I didn't go any further with this line but from the tree I made up to help me find your line William married Elizabeth Swain.

Charlotte Matilda was born in 1884 so that is why she doesn't show.
There were eleven children in all.
the last one born 1887.
Charlotte was named after her maternal grandmother Charlotte Fairest.

On 1939 register there is in CHESTERFIELD a Fred Ibbotson birth date 25 Nov 1878. That seems coincidental with the 25 Nov (1879 which looks wrong year) given on the correct baptism.
The birth record for Fred, mmn Swain was registered in the first 10 days of January 1879, implying exactly 42 days (the limit) after birthday
In the 39 register he has a wife Mary born in Nov 1883 and there is a lodger (police constable).
There are several possible marriages around the country for a Fred Ibbotson marrrying a Mary. One possible is Ecclesall Bierlow 1834 to Mary Autey and double registered as Mary Window

Edit Mary Autey birth registered Ecclesall Bierlow Q4 1883, so that is a perfect fit. She married Robert Thomas Window in 1907

The 1881 is correct and yes Fred is shown as Fredk, but all others he is Fred, and the baptism seems to confirm that. In 1891 the family (apart from Fred & Harry who were with there sister Annie Plant) were at Dam Head Cottages Oughtibridge and Elizabeth was a widow. Elizabeth was a Swain and Charlotte Fairest is correct

Great so I can get this possible connection up to date in your tree.

Sooooo..... Fred's father was William not a George. ...... William was the son of Joseph (1797) and his father was John Ibbotson that I have no further info on.

Yes William was Fred's father, but its William not George who's father is Joseph (1797) and Joseph's father is John.

Thats right..... leave George out of it.

Have not found Fred on the 1911 census but Jane is Head of household together with her brothers Herbert and George, plus they have a boarder Alfred Machin. All the Ibbotson members are single and living in the parish of Bradfield.

According to the 1954 Electoral Register Fred was at 2 Stanley Fold Oughtibridge with siblings Herbert, Charlotte Matilda Cocker (widow) & nephew George F Cocker.

And coincidentally Mary Ibbotson age 69 ( born about 1883) died Q1 1853 in Chesterfield.

I assume you mean 1953. Yes if the marriage is correct Fred returned home after her death. The only way to prove is to order the marriage cert.

I am confident the marriage cert will show his father was William. More interesting would be was he a bachelor or a widower at that marriage?
