I have looked at all the usual sites etc and I am trying to find Julia BAXBY prior to her marriage to my 3rd cousin.
Julia BAXBY married Samuel Syddall in Whittington Derbyshire in 1852. I believe her father was Samuel Baxby. The only Samuel Baxby on FMP seems to have led a very checkered life from being a young boy in Sheffield. He later went into the army and then imprisonment in Wakefield. Thats as I said if I have the correct chap.
I thought with a name like BAXBY it would have been an easy task, not that common a name. They seem to be very shy about having their names recorded anywhere.

Sheffield Independent March 22 & 29 1845
Julia Baxby of Whittington” gave coroners court evidence into the “supposed murder” of Mrs Green. Julia Baxby was a “young woman”. She “went to Mrs. Green’s, as was her usual custom, with milk, which her father was in the habit of supplying Mrs Green with.
The jury decided murder. Joseph Hawksley, Mrs Green’s son in law was arrested and the issue of 29 March includes a report of his suicide at the House of Correction at Chesterfield.
The point of this is that Julia Baxby was at Whittington in 1845 and her father presumably had at least one cow (or other milk producing animal).
1851 census Whittington
George Thorpe 53 shopkeeper & farmer 47 acres
Sarah wife Thorpe 55
Henry Thorpe son 24
Julia Baxby, niece, 27, domestic servant born Yorkshire, Sheffield.
And Whittington 1841:
George Thorpe, 40 blacksmith
Sarah 40
Charles 15 blacksmith apprentice
Henry 15 do
Julia Bachsby 17 F S
All born in county.
Maybe it was actually George Thorpe who provided the milk.
George Thorpe’s wife was Sarah nee SILCOCK . A Samuel Baxby married Ann SILCOCK in 1820 Sheffield Parish Church. Both marriages are on FMP. This explains how Julia Baxby was niece to the Thorpes

Elaine,
Samuel Baxby (b 1799 Totley) died in 1854 and he was a Sawsmith. He is on the 1851 Sheffield Census, a widower, with his married son Joseph (Julias elder brother) and several grandchildren. He is also on the 1841 Sheffield Census (Sawsmith) with his second wife Sarah, who he married in 1833 (image on FMP).
Son Joseph's baptism (on FMP) was in 1822 in Dore and it has been transcribed as BUXBY. His father was Samuel and mother Ann
There are 7 public member trees on Ancestry which have Samuel Baxby and one of them has Julia. However they are all lacking the info I have given you above about his 2 children and his 2 marriages. They do however seem to have good info about his parents.
I assume you have enough there to find all the original documents.
Thanks to everyone who filling in material that I didn't have or could not link to Julia.
I have FMP thanks Dave and I believe I found most of the info i.e. baptisms from there & Family Search.
Did anyone else come up with the same info re Samuel that he was discharged from the Army in Ireland (Bad Character) and that he had numerous charges with Sheffield police and imprisoned in Wakefield????
No rush on this I know its a busy time with the pre Xmas prep.
Julia Syddall nee Baxby is buried in Whittington Churchyard. (1868) not 1881 as per the leaflet posted at her sons show of his art at the church a little while ago.
Several Samuel Baxby in the Sheffield papers. This one is the only hit before 1854 (Gale newspapers).
Sheffield Independent 28 Dec 1833
MARRIAGES
On Monday … Mr Samuel Baxby, saw-maker, to Miss Sarah Parkin.
The next item is in 1864 when Samuel Baxby & Urban Travis are charged with stealing six tame pigeons.
FMP has a military record for a Samuel Baxby. He was discharged in Ireland with bad character.
But that was in 1872. I assume his prison record came after that
Dave
I think you just gave me a push in the right direction.
He can`t be Julia`s father........
I had found a burial for a Samuel Baxby at St Mary`s Bramall Lane.29th March 1854 aged 55. That would fit in nicely with that 1799 Baptisms. Julia being born 1824 ish. I had the two marriage for him from our index.
If he was discharged in 1872 it certainly wouldn`t fit the burial in 1854.
Been out Xmas shopping so will check ALL the info out you have given me and see if it all fits.
Thanks guys. That 2nd pair of eyes certainly helped.
