Leytonstone

Has anyone any idea which registration district the above place would have been in in the 1940s and 50s. I have a relative who lived there then and produced 4 children (info from a member of the family) but as yet only found what i think are two so I am also wondering if the mothers surname has been indexed wrongly.

Regards

John

Re: Leytonstone

Thank you all, so here is my problem.

Edward James Whiteley born 1925 poplar parents John William Whiteley and Lily Taylor married 1919 in Sheffield.

He married late 40s early 50s and produced 4 children but I am struggling to find whom he married.

According to BMD leytonstone was in the Essex SW RD.

I had thought he had married Joan E M Playell but then that shows onkly 2 children born with the MMN

Anyone with any suggestions please be appreciated. I can only think he might have married only using one of his names but as yet nothing jumping out to me.

Re: Leytonstone

There is an Edward D Whiteley who married Eithne E Dowling SepQ 1941 in Essex SW. They had four daughters in three other districts, 1943-54. Is this the family you are looking for?

Re: Leytonstone

Thanks Sally but no. I might have to go back to the drawing board on this.

Going to go back to his parents and check out where they were in 1921

John William Whiteley born 1892 married Lily Selina Taylor in 1919 in Sheffield but Lily was born in the Poplar RD.

John William died in 1996 I think so need to check if he left a will.

The notes I have from the family member which were done in 1990 says Edward married and produced 4 children and she remembers visiting them down south in 1953ish and met two.

Perhaps he married in a completely different area altogether a distant cousin says the name of Joan rings a bell (thats why I thought he had married Joan Playell) but its definitely something thats going to use some brain cells up.

John
The marriage cert in 1947 of Edward J Whiteley to Joan E M Playell will tell you his father name.
You should check probate for Edward and also Joan.

Re: Leytonstone

edward died in 1996 the DOB matches what I have for him so was considering gambling on that. Edward as far as i can tell did not leave a will but Joan did as she died in 2007. Not sure which to go for first.

Re: Leytonstone

John,
There are 2 small trees on ancestry which have your Edward James Whiteley and his marriage to Joan Playell.
You already indicated that you know the identities of 2 children and you can follow those further forward with their marriages. These are living people so no names on here.
This will make it pretty clear that one of the trees on ancestry belongs to a descendent. You can contact that person on Ancestry. It should be mutually rewarding because you can provide ancestors they do not have and they can give you modern info.
