Birth record of a James Windle

Hi,

I have been researching my 3rd generation ancestry and found a record for a James Handley, born in Sheffield in the 1st Q of 1862. MMN says Windle - which would tie in with the family line as I thought he was a child born to Harriet Windle (2 marriages before Wharton and Whittaker)and her 3rd husband Henry Handley. On the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census the couple have all the boys born to them from 1854 to 1859, but no mention of a James?

I tried to search for possibly another Handley& Windle marriage but couldn't find anything. I did find James Handley born in Sheffield about 1862 on the census with his wife and child in 1891, and 1901, and 1911. But I can't locate him in the previous census before he married. Nor can I find a marriage certificate for James and 'wife Haan Higgins.

Any help appreciated, or pointers towards finding the information. I will consider sending for the birth record if I don't have any luck.

Regards
Sarah

Re: Birth record of a James Windle

Sarah, have you checked GROIndex to see if he died in infancy?
Also note that the birth registration record is available as a Digiital Image which costs only £3.50 and is available instantly.

Re: Birth record of a James Windle

Thanks Dave, The Windle registration of mmn died in infancy. I just checked that.
I think I found out that he belongs to a MMN Whitham. Recorded as Jim in 1864.
Thanks, I seem to be getting there, but still need a a hand with this!

Regards

Sarah

Hi Sarah

Just checking is this the same Windle/Handley family you started a thread on back in 2020?

Yes Denise. I am revisiting some of my research as I found a few anomalies.

Thanks

Hi Sarah

Thanks. It's just that some of the information in the previous thread may be useful/of interest (as there's a bit more detail eg addresses on census records etc) in helping people to point you in the right direction.

So when revisiting something it's always worth referring to previous threads, so we get as full a picture as possible.
