I am looking for the marriage of the above Samuel was born in Rawmarsh in 1908 and emigrated to canada but not sure when.

I have been trying to find the above marriage but I am unsure if it was in Yorkshire or Canada or when. If it is available on line then I must be putting something in wrongly in the search boxes.

Any help please would be appreciated.

Did you check FreeBMD out???

Canada does not have the same central agency (GRO) as in the Uk. Each PROVENCE looks after its own BMD's.

If you have information on this couple that should lead you to where the marriage took place.

Also look at FMP under LJS Perkin in 1911 he was two years old.
Family make up and possibly where in Canada they could have lived.

Thanks elaine I have found him in 1931 in vancoover and that's where he died Dora has middle names Rosaline so I'm wondering if that's the problem.

Two things I found at Ancestry -

This brief notice in the Vancouver Sun of 24 Feb 1937:

'A marriage license has been issued here to Samuel S. Perkins, 28, and Dora R. N. Campbell, 24, both Britannia Beach. British Columbia'

(note: I believe this is an automated transcription, so not necessarily accurate. I could have looked at an image of the original with a 7-day free trial, but I didn't want to do that)

A family tree, also at Ancestry, says they had married the day before the above published notice, in Seattle, Washington, USA

This appears to be from a US marriage index which has the following note:

"The facts in this collection were found using artificial intelligence technology and may contain errors."

The original marriage record is dated 23rd Feb 1937 in King County Seattle. In it the groom is actually named Samuel J S Perkins but his signature at the bottom I read as Perkin not Perkins.

Their address is misspelt by the clergyman as Britania Beach not Britannia Beach

You haven't shared with us what's made you think that from looking at the 1931 census - but why wouldn't it be possible?

I typed Dora campbell on family search living vancouver and a Dava rosaleen campbell turned up born 1912 was trying to find that on Scotland gov website. I can't access it for some reason

So presumably the familysearch record said born in Scotland? Do you mean the Scotlands People website you cant access?

Not too sure why you cant access it - just checked and it seems to be working okay You'll need to register to access records but its free and you get basic info form a free search. You need to buy credits to see the full info/documents.

Scotlands People is accessible. It is free to use but you must register. Even if you forgot your registration details it makes it very easy to recover them

Sorted not found Dora though

My inclination would be to follow through with the Dora Nellie Campbell who is 19 years of age on the 1931 Canadian census and living with parents Charles and Lavinia Campbell at Brittania Beach, British Columbia. Found on Family Search. The record shows she immigrated from England with her mother and siblings in 1928.

Helen. Not seen that one. Trouble is with family search not very good with using the advance option so will look again. Thank you

found it, very interesting, not found any births yet that match in scotland or England so I am beginning to wonder was Charles marriage to Lavina a second one for her as she was older then him. Something to check out

John, You need to find a marriage of Charles Campbell to a Lavinia on Free BMD. That gives you her maiden name. GRO index then identifies her daughter born before the marriage, ie illegitimate in her maiden name.

Here is Charles Campbell's certificate of death. It gives you Lavinia's maiden name and the names of Charles' parents. Unable to find a death certificate for Lavinia so she may have died outside of British Columbia and her death certificate is not online as yet.

Very interesting thanks for help the death cert for charles is certainly informative. Will put this chapter on the back burner now.
