Not in Sheffield I know but I hope for some advice please.

Arthur Ernest Dodd born 1878 in Long Eaton parents James Edmund Orelie Duplaget (sic)

In 1899 he marrield Florence Marie Hopkins and then the the trail goes cold as I can't find him after that nor his death,

I did think it could have been in Rotherham in 1944 but the death was not correct ie wrong middle name.

If anyone can help me find Arthurs death will be appreciated.

FamilySearch also has the 1949 death record for Arthur Ernest Dodd (a lace weaver, born Long Eaton, January 14 1876, not quite the birth match).

There is a widow Ethel Beyea.

Thank you both so in 1901 they were in long Eaton then emigrated after that. Will try and find them on shipping list later.

There are an Arthur E Dodd (32, weaver lace mill), Florence M Dodd (26) & Hayden A Dodd (son, 6) in Carbon Pennsylvania in 1910. Arthur & Florence born England and Hayden born Pennsylvania. Parents of both born England.
Unhelpfully says immigration 1889 & 1891 – so either an error or a different couple.

The trio with matching details are in West Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island in 1915 state census. Additionally says Arthur’s father & mother born France.

Coincidentally there are a James & Anna Dodd on the next lines, 45 & 40, he born France, she born England.

The 1920 federal census (West Warwick again) says Arthur & Florence immigrated 1902 & naturalized 1914. The parents birthplaces are different: his father born England, mother born France. Hayden born Pennsylvania.

I haven’t found them leaving England, but this was just a quick look. But it looks like your target time is around 1902.

Terry, Thank you for this yes both parents of Arthur were born in France but were British subjects.

I shall see if I can find them leaving in 1902 family search seems to have vastly improved since I really last used it some years ago.

ps Florence I think was born 1880 as it says she was 19 when she married Arthur so the date on her death cert was probably her baptism date. I have not found her birth yet on the GRO so I wonder if she was illegit.
