Sheffield Newspaper reports of returning escaped POW,S

In 2013 I researched my Sister-in-Law's fathers escape from a POW CAMP in Northern Italy into Switzerland. With all the information we were able to get she made the return to Italy and Switzerland following his journey and even being lucky enough to meet up with relatives of the partisans who helped him and two others escape. He was interred in Caux Palace in Switzerland from where he was repatriated back to England shortly before the end of the war. His name was Ernest Warris Pvt in the 5th Bat East Yorks Regt captured at Tobruck 29/06/1942 and subsequently sent to Italy. He lived at Pitsmoor in Sheffield. Would anyone know if there were any local reports of his escape or of his return to Sheffield in the Star or The Sheffield Telegraph at the time.

If you do not find a newspaper report have you tried the "Red Cross" as I believe they would have been dealing with him when he was repatriated.

Thanks Elaine for your reply. We have all the information from the Red Cross which is rather limited. Just wondered if there were any reports in local newspapers? Have seen other reports of different Pow'S return in other parts of the country on the WW2 Talk website and as we have a great deal of info just thought there may be some local reports to add a personal feel to the story. Thanks
