St Josephs

Trying to locate great grandfathers second wife. If I have the right person she may have been in St Josephs Roman Catholic Reformatory School in Sheffield according to the 1881 census. Are there any more resources out there that may help me with locating her date of birth or place of birth and how she ended up there? Thank you

Re: St Josephs

A long time ago I noted that there were boxes and boxes of records from the Reformatory in Sheffield Archives, but at that point they had not been catalogued in any detail. This may have changed.

The records included correspondence from local authorities concerning individual girls they were sending or wanted to send to St Joseph's.

Hi Pam,

If you have the 1891 census attaching her to your great grandfather then to be absolutely sure I would obtain her marriage cert. That would give her age and her fathers name.

The GRO births would then give her mothers maiden name. I am finding that very useful were I have questioned if folks really belong in my tree.
