For so long mental illness has been treated like \" Devil Possession\" or something that no one really wants to speak truthfully about. It is wonderful that someone has finally taken the time to right the wrongs that have been written about such a wonderful person that unfortunately had a mental illness. I just wish more people could know the truth about this beautiful woman.

I very much appreciated your article and the time you spent researching and \"righting\" the inconsistencies regarding the life of Frances Farmer. As someone who battles depression, there were various times in my life I experienced the stigma of mental difficulties. It is a terrible injustice to any human being whose life circumstances have been distorted or misrepresented so that someone could profit monetarily from doing so, or using the sad details of anyone\'s life to further their own beliefs/agenda. It is wonderful that you were inspired to tell the truth and help at least this one person rest in peace with the dignity and respect we all deserve. God bless!

Spent 12 years (1960-1972) in Washington, D.C. Noted comments on The Lobotomist book. Interested in Psychosurgery practiced during the Depression (trnasorbital leucotomy). Thelma Hunt was my teacher at G.W.U. in D.C. Hold degrees in Psychology & Law (N.Y. Law School). Noted New Deal funded Hollywood productions due to Depression, as well as the Theatre. Egas Monis signed Versailles Treaty on behalf of Portugal, & Burgholtz, from Switzerland also involved in lobotomies. My response to W.F. similar to H.S.Sullivan\'s, but believe Freeman reformed.

Thank you for your great article on Frances Farmer, I work at a State Supported living center (school.) We were given a task of choosing a person with a mental illness and writing a reprot on our findings. I had no idea who Frances Farmer was but I am was really inerested in her story once I a began to embark on this task. You information really helped!

So glad to have found your website concerning Frances Farmer. I read "Will There Really Be A Morning" in high school and saw the film, "Frances" in 1982. Glad to know that though Frances' life was a difficult one, she did not have to endure the tortures both the book and the movie portray. Angers me that Lillian was portrayed in such a negative light when she clearly was not. There needs to be MORE people like you Jeff!

Hi Jeff..
I just finished reading your website report on Frances Farmer. I would guess that your site's hit stats pop up a bit when Frances airs on cable (which it did a couple hours ago). Honestly, I had never even heard her name prior to watching the film this evening.. though I typically head straight for Google after watching most bio-type movies to get the full scoop on facts.. and I thank you for providing those facts on Frances Farmer! Your article was very enjoyable and informative. Glad I checked you out. Also love your tunes.. especially your version of Greensleeves. Here's wishing you the best of a happy, healthy future.

I was interested in Farmer after seeing the film starring Jessica Lange. I applaud Jeff for his research and think the fictionalised accounts should be stated as such in notations/credits.

Great research, very fair and neccessary, it doesn't under-rate the real story of this remarkable woman, it brings her life deservedly into a real and full context. What a pity she didn't write her own story but it is great that the fictionalised accounts have been put to rest. I now feel strongly that annotations should be added on any movies or books that are so clearly fictionalised.
