Dear Filipino Friends


Debbi Shaw and I have recently arrived from Manila, where we are involved in the publishing of the Jeepney, and the organizing of the Philippine Homeless World Cup Team.

The Jeepney is a member of the International Network of Street Papers, INSP, a global consortium of 100 magazines and papers providing job opportunities and an alternative media voice. The Jeepney is a magazine printed to employ and celebrate the lives of homeless Filipinos.

The Homeless World Cup, is an annual international tournament to promote public awareness on the plight of the homeless and poor, and to generate change in the lives of those trapped in extreme circumstances. It has become a premier sporting event and powerful social voice.

In September 2009, eight players, all of them homeless, represented the Philippines in Milan, Italy. Combining football, music and art, the Philippine squad, joined 48 nations in the 8th annual Homeless World Cup, and captured the hearts of their countrymen.

Both of these projects are organized by Urban Opportunities for Change Foundation Inc., and have been supported by a few individuals and a Michigan Church, Charlevoix Community Reformed. They have been recognized in Manila in the House of Representatives, by Congressman Zialcita and will be presented in the senate by Senator Kiko Pangilinan. The have been featured on the Probe Team, Media in Focus, 700 club, the Daily National Inquirer, the Phillipine Star, as well as numerous other publications, TV programs, networks, radio stations and internet.

Debbi and I are here to raise interest and support for these social enterprises that do not give dole-outs, but opportunity. We are self-funded and working as missionaries to establish both of these projects for the urban poor in the Philippines.

We would like to present these projects to the Filipino communities in the US. Can you help and do you have an interest?
