Re: Harold Jeffcock

Just looking at ww1 records on FMP, it looks like he was formerley on the TS Indefatigable prior to army enlistment to the Kings Rifle Regt.Macclesfield born and next of kin is Sarah Jeffcock her address given as Worksop Rd Attercliffe and his address was 7 Newark St Attercliffe.

Must be your man

Terry

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Thanks Terry, exactly right. I didn't name the ship as I couldn't remember how to spell it lol ...
As you can see he names his sister Sarah as his next of kin. My mother who is Harold and Sarah's relative lived on Worksop Road as a baby.
So next I need to find any entries in Sheffield Homes and in Leeds Training School.
If anyone can help with any Sheffield entries that would be great!

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Karen
The illegitimate birth in Macclesfield of Harold Jeffcock was registered at GRO in Q1 1892. Therefore he was born on 22 December 1891.
Note that he was said to be an orphan on the school record, and he was adopted by the guardians on 6th March 1901, so the Sheffield Union were under the impression that he was already an orphan in March 1901. Also, based on the 1901 census, they wrongly believed he was born in Leeds.

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Thank you Wendy, definitely worth looking into. She married John William Davies in 1899 in Leeds. Now to find his death!

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Hi Karen,
You may want to check out the burials over to your left on this website.
There is a possible death for:
JOHN WILLIAM DAVIES (with E) Sheffield Indexers record: Buried Jan.9th/1917 at Abbey Lane Cemetery Sheffield. He died at 30 Springfield Rd at age 86 (Retired).
GRO Death registry: March qtr. 1917 Ecclesall Bierlow.

In 1901 John William Davies was living in Barker's Pool, Sheffield, a shopkeeper/draper age 70.

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Hi Wendy
Thanks again for taking a look for me. Sadly I don't think this is the correct gentleman. On the records mentioned both parents are listed as dead by 1901.
However thank you for the information on the Ada you found as this is without doubt the correct lady.
This afternoon I found her info on Ancestry. She is buried in Beckett Street Cemetary. The records also gave her address at time of death. A strange address - 36 Cardigan Mount.
I tried to trace the records further for John William but had to give up as the pages stopped short. I need to find out how to search for those records on Ancestry to see if he is also in Beckett Street.
Thank you so much Wendy and others for your help x

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Hi Karen,
Just to clarify (and add the info I left out) the 1901 census I mentioned for John William Davies(with an E) living in Barker's Pool Sheffield, was recorded as a widow, who was born at Millington, Cheshire (Millington is situated within the market town of Macclesfield. (Millington ref: Wikipedia). Maybe this info will help eliminate or embrace the above gentleman.
Good Luck

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Karen, John William Davies was not a parent of Harold Jeffcock. Therefore you have no reason to expect him to be dead when Harold was in the Sheffield Workhouse.

Re: Harold Jeffcock

Hi Wendy and Dave
Thank you for your info.
It definitely has given me food for thought.
Wendy, I'll take a look at this gentleman for sure.
Dave, I'd not thought of it that way.

It just goes to show that it's good to have extra pairs of eyes looking at something with you. Shows that I definitely need to look outside the box more!

Thank you both again
