THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Is this right?

Big applause for Dan You are doing great but I must scold you for skipping the Transcending Tone Exercise. Two things you must realize. #1- You've been taking the practice seriously for only 5 days, and some people will amazingly reach super high notes in only a matter of a few days, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to immediately apply it to a song. If you really want to master all the way up to that C6, then you MUST do all three exercises in a row. I know thet T.T. exercise is hard. Don't worry if you can't do it very well or go as high as the other exercises. Also, don't worry if you haven't mastered the breaks in your voice on the other exercises. The key is to SLOW DOWN at the point where the breaks begin to happen

#2 Vocal Stamina! Doing these exercises is easier than singing because you are only using one contolled vowel. When you sing and the words change by the application of different consonants and vowel, your whole vocal makeup will change with each word, i.e. the posistion of your mouth changes, you'll adjust your larynx, the tongue moves, etc... So, the key to mastering those high notes is to continue to work with the exercises, then add a CD of 5 different songs for you to sing every day. Start with lower songs and gradually build up to the higher pitches.

Just the fact that you've already nailed those notes shows me you can sing that high. You are also absolutely right about the ability to sing high and full with little breath. It will feel like you are inhaling...that's the Inhalation Sensation I talk about in the book. So, congratsulations, and good luck! Keep working hars! If 5 days worked this well, let's see what you can accomplish in 50 days
