THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Staying motivated...

you find them in plant whole-foods: fruits, vegetables and grains.

there's lots behind lack of motivation. I used to have it to. For me it was health related, my health was deteriorating so it was like everyrhing was just a huge freaking effort for me so I if I didn't get immediate results I'd just lay it off.

For you it may or may not be health related, you may even just need a kick in the ass, but many people aren't really healthy anyway lol. i don't know much about you or your situation so it's hard to say.

think about all the above points i posted in the first email. what do you think of them and how they relate to you? I don't really know much about you.

Re: Staying motivated...

Get a picture of a really really good looking girl. Whenever in doubt look at the picture and remember why we really practice singing that much for

Cheers

Re: Staying motivated...

Should have called that one haha!

Re: Staying motivated...

If you aren't motivate to practice then you don't want it bad enough. When you have that burning desire within you, and don't focus just on dreaming about being an amazing singer, BUT, you truly want it so bad you can taste it, well, then you'll be practicing your butt off;)

Re: Staying motivated...

Ok I'm going to give you some real advice because we all pretty much know the "If you aint making it happen, then you aren't happening" type stuff.

Get a somewhat dull job or hobby where you stand and don't have to concentrate much. Sing your ass off while you do that job.

For me it's having a really crappy dishwasher that forces me to have do lots of stuff by hand.

For you it might be sorting papers, folding laundry, whatever.

I also love yard work while singing rock and grit. Screaming and improving about it's "Chop! Chop! Choooop!" or "Buh--leeed Weed!"

If your neighbors stare at you just laugh and turn on the radio.

Seriously, this Disney/Musical sing while you work stuff works.

That's funny because when I am using the Vacuum Cleaner, I sing different vowels and try to stay in perfect pitch with the Vacuum cleaner for as long as I can, essentially trying to see how long i can hold a note - not actually timing it, just trying to sort off "get in the zone", so to speak. LOL

Re: Staying motivated...

Tried to do exercises while doing the dishes and my dad yelled at me :(. I can only sing when no one else is in the house, and that rarely happens. I might record some falsetto slides starting at about F4 because I could never get falsetto at middle C because my core of resonance was in my chest.

I also can never do lip bubbles even when I put my fingers on my lips and push them to the sides, so I did humming instead...

Re: Staying motivated...

It took me a while to get lip bubbles.

I used to be able to get half-baked ones by pressing or squeezing my cheeks but then it would pitter out.

What they don't tell you is that you have to use your lips and mouth and squeeze them together with just the right amount of tension--often with a little lower jaw jut.

NO ONE SAYS THIS OR DEMOS THIS!

Instead it's, 'oh yeah just blow and stay relaxed'. All you do is look like your spitting on yourself or buzzing air.

Anyways, I'll have to try skullsplitters vaccum tuning next time I hear one.

Recorded some falsetto slides
Sorry for the quality, I was using my cell phone.
