Morning friends,

I have a distant family connection who though born in Hathersage lived in Fulwood.
John Taylor born 1847.Hathersage

On the 1891 census he and his family were living at Whiteley Wood Farm in the Parish of Fulwood.
His wife Ann died 1890 and is buried at Christ Church Fulwood. I suspect he is also buried there but it could be Hathersage. My NBI Cd is still not working. I have tried Family Search, MyHeritage
& FreeReg for Hathersage with no luck.

I did find a possible death March qtr of 1901 Sheffield 9c 304 but I don't think the age matched at the GRO.***** Sorry the age is correct (54) but where is he buried?

I have a distant cousin coming to Sheffield from Saskatchewan in the Fall and she would like to visit his grave. He's her 2x great grandfather.

The only John Tatlor I can find at Fulwood is John Taylor aged 46 buried 10 Sep 1892 he was living at Loxley, so could this be your man and after Ann died he went to live with a relative and that is where he died and his body was then taken to Fulwood

“John Taylor who occupied Throstle Nest Farm, Storrs, near Loxley, was on Tuesday afternoon found hanging dead by a cord from a beam in his hayloft. Deceased was well known at Fulwood where he once occupied a farm for about eight years.”

Thanks to Heather & John I believe we have him. Surprised if he committed suicide that they buried him in consecrated ground ... but I am glad they did.(Christ Church Fulwood)

Now to let my distant cousin in Saskatchewan know what we have found.

John's first wife was Mary Cadness Woodhouse born School Green Fulwood 1846 a distant cousin in my line.

The Sheffield Independent May 27 & June 3 1893 has an advertisement for claims on the estate of John Taylor late of Throstle Nest Farm, Storrs, Stannington. Letters of administration granted to Ernest Taylor, Liberty Hill, Stannington, razor scale presser.

The Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 8 September 1892 has a separate item on page 7. It adds: in a low way consequent on certain monetary troubles. The jury returned a verdict of “Suicide during a state of temporary insanity”.

Thanks for the added information. I will add it to all the info I have and can now pass it on.

No wonder he had monetary problems he had 11 children in two marriages. Lost two wives both young and one child.
Seven of the children from his first marriage stayed in England and the four from his 2nd marriage all came to Canada.
Not me..I was what Canadians call a delayed pioneer.LOL. Hubby & I came here in 1967.

The 1823 Burial of Suicides Act allowed burial in consecrated ground but only at night and without a Christian service.

The 1882 Interments (felo de se) Act repealed the 1823 Act and allowed burial in consecrated ground at any time of day and with a service.

Thanks Hugh, Useful information. I thought I had read somewhere that the burial could take place just outside the church boundary (over the churchwall) but I wouldn't swear to it.
