Hi,
Following a DNA test by my mum and Auntie, the hope being to find a link to their grandfather. (Unknown and not named on birth certificate). Is there anybody out there who understands the DNA process and how it works? They literally have thousands of links and I do t know which route to follow?
The process is very confusing, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Debra, you should start with the strongest matches, Ie those with the largest amount of common DNA, and try to fit them into your family tree. Then move down the list progressively until you come to a halt. You should also split the matches into mother side and father side to narrow the search.
You said you have dna results for both your mother and your aunt and that you believe they have a common, unidentified grandfather. Is your aunt therefore your mother’s sister or her cousin.
Were both sets of DNA done with one provider?
Which provider(s)?
Is your family history in the Sheffield area?
Dave
