I know not Sheffield but I need an extra pair of eyes in case I have missed the obvious.

Jessie was born in 1885 and her mother's maiden name was Kirk.

In 1881 I have found a marriage of a James Gostelow to Alice Kirk.

James died but not found this because the 1891 census has Jessie with her mother and Charles Bush the marriage of Charles to Alice was in 1890 and I know this is her second marriage as itsays her father was called James Kirk.

can anyone find a death please for James (the surname may have lots of variantions and I obviously haven't found the correct one)

There are multiple deaths for a James Gostelow/Gostolow in Lincolnshire.

Presumably you've been using DOB, location and surname spellings in your search criteria - so it will help, as always, if you tell us what exact criteria you've used and what you've already ruled out. That will help narrow down the search.

Hi John, James Gostolow born 1858 died 1888 Horncastle.

Barry, thank you. for some reason I had got James born in 1846 and married a Sarah but obviously I had found the wrong James. Yours makes perfect sence.

Hi John, The 1881 census shows him and parents in Mareham-le-Fen, Lincolnshire.
