I'm wondering if this is my granddad, did he move/emigrate to Canada and have a son named Lionel?

Hi
The GRO birth index shows 2 Kilner children with MMN Simmonite, born Ecclesall Bierlow and Sheffield.
Anthony Q3 1934
Joan M Q2 1936
The 1939 register has the family living 83 Pickering Rd Sheffield. William (DOB 18/04/1909) was a drill inspector.
Doris (DOB 18 Jan 1910) is marked as later having married LUSCOMBE on 3 Jan 1973.
There are 2 closed entries, presumably Anthony and Joan.
Death index has William B Kilner age 57 dying 1966, death registered in the Chesterfield district.
Probate index says William Benson Kilner of 11 Jaunty Mount, Sheffield died 6 June 1966 with probate granted to the Yorkshire Bank.
A William Kilner aged 26 is shown as having travelled to Seattle in 1935 but there was no middle name Benson mentioned.

The 26 yr old William Kilner who travelled to Seattle in 1935 did so from Canada and he was born in Canada.
Dave
Sachne, what information have you already got about your grandfather? Do you have a date of birth for him? Whereabouts in Canada did he live?
Heths
Thank you
Thanks for the question!
Not much really.
I understand he was from the south of Wales, his father was in the local men's choir.
I know he was in the war and sustained bullet wounds.
I know he moved to Canada, settling in the Vancouver, BC area.
I know he had one son named Lionel Benson Kilner who was born in BC on Sept 24 in the 1940's
His wife died young, when my dad was around 17. Also in BC Canada.
I understand my Grandad had a brother or sister as there were 2 cousins.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!
From the 1921 census William Benson Kilner was born in Sheffield and his father Frederick Arthur Kilner was born in 1886 in Sheffield.
Is the marriage you found the correct one for you or is it you know your grandfather was called William Benson Kilner?
The reason I am asking is this (fellow indexers might assist)
On this site there is a burial in 1902 for a William Benson Kilner aged 21 died just after he got married, need to try to find birth for him.
Regards
John
Hi Sachne,
I may be confusing the issue more, but I believe there are at least 2 William Benson Kilners, possibly cousins or uncle and nephew. But I have found the following on the British Columbia Archives website. As my computer is on it's last legs and not cooperating with anything, I may not be able to attach the links for you, but will attempt to do so.
William Benson Kilner married Margaret Clark Morgan on Aug. 31, 1935 in Vancouver. B.C. The groom was 27, bachelor, Church of England, a truck driver and his place of birth was Fernie, B.C. His father was George Kilner born in Yorkshire, Eng. and his mother's maiden name was Alice McGuire born in Yorkshire, Eng. Bride was 25, Spinster, Church of England, a candy packer and born in Wales. Her parents were William Morgan born Wales and Nancy Clark born England. Margaret died on Apr. 23, 1966 at the age of 55. Cause of death was breast cancer 3+ years. The informant was her husband W.B. Kilner and her parents were William Morgan and Nancy Clark. The place of death was White Rock B.C. William seems to have remarried as his death certificate has a new wife listed. John William Benson Kilner died on Aug.10, 1979 in White Rock, B.C. age 71. He was a retired engineer. Parents were George Kilner and Alice McGuire and both are shown to be born in Sheffield, Yorkshire. His cause of death was severe arteriosclerosis and chronic gastritis. Birth date given as May 8, 1908 and his wife is listed as Margaret Grace Butchart. There is also a death shown for a George Kilner about 2 weeks after William's marriage to his first wife, on Sept. 12, 1935 in Vancouver at the age of 57. I suspect that this is William's father. I think William had a sister Edna Mae who was older than him, who married William Dale in Vancouver, June 12, 1926.

Thank you all so much!
Helen, you got it!!
My dad had an aunt Edna who married a William and had two children named billy and Norma. Edna was older than my grandpa.
You gave me the clues I needed to confirm.
Thank you!
Glad that I could help. This is the other link I was trying to send before my computer started to act up.
