There is no requirement at the marriage ceremony for the official, be it registrar or vicar, to ask whether the father still living. The person may or may not happen to mention that they are deceased. If they do then he may write it down, or he may not.
If it does not say deceased you cannot assume that he is still alive.
On the 1860 marriage, will you please tell us what age was given for Elizabeth, and what was her address and occupation

Denise, thank you. I had forgotten that. It seems this is now the third time Sarah has asked this question and we came up with a scenario where Elizabeth Guest was illegitimate and brought up by Thomas Humble and his wife Ann. I wonder if Sarah can enlighten us why she does not accept that?
