Family Search have Fred Ibbotson born 1879 ( actual birth 29 Dec 1878) & Alice Ann Parkin born 1874 who married 3 Mar 1901 Church of Ascension. It gives Fred's father as George an engineer. Trying to pick Fred, father & family on the 1881/1891. Found 1 possible on the 1891 Nether Hallam (family Search) but its not giving parents only siblings? Any help appreciated.

The only one I could find on Family Search was born in 1886. Father George mother Kate H
Three Siblings, George,William Hy & Blanche.

The 1901/11 census states that Fred was born in Sheffield and Alice Ann Oughtibridge

Fred was a General Labourer.Moved from Bradfield to Stocksbridge and stayed there.
1939 Index has them at 62 Haywood Lane Stocksbridge. He was a stationary Engine Driver.

Looking at The GRO Index.
There is only one Fred Ibbotson Registered in Dec qtr 1878. SF 9c 111 mmn NOBLE
Two in March qtr '79
Sf 9c 473 mmn Musgreaves
SF 9c 429 mmn SWAIN (father William) This one I researched as I though he was one of mine.

I believe this could be Fred's death. 1959 aged 80 in Wortley 2d 647

I found the same as you. It's certainly not the Swain one, that's definitely mine

The Ibbotsons on 1891 census have mmn on birth records as Swin. There is a marriage of a William Ibbotson and Elizabeth Swain 3Q 1863

Found 4 siblings: Harry Ibbotson, Sheffield 1867, Jane Ibbotson Sheffield 1871, George Ibbotson Sheffield 1876, Albert Ibbotson Ecclesall Bierlow 1865.

Yes they are the children of William & Elizabeth (Swain). Jane actually married a George William Parkin. That's why I think there is a possibke link somewhere with Fred Ibbotson & Alice Ann Parkin

Baptised December 17, 1885, by BB Slater at St Bartholomew, Langsett Rd.
Parents name(s) are Kate Ellen & George (Engineer).

Doesn't mean he was born in 1885.

The only other thing I can think of if he was indeed born 1878.....(where did you get that date from?)BUT born to an single mum (Ibbotson)

As I said this morning only three listed as being born/registered in Sheffield.

I think you may possibly find the connection to Alice Ann Parkin over to your left under Parish Records: Marriages.
Frederick Parkin (father George:TK Cutler) married Mary Elizabeth Slack (father William: steel melter) Dec/25th/1867.
George William Parkin B:1869 (who married Jane Ibbotson) was one of their children (mmn SLACK).

The only query I have with the George William Parkin born 1869 mmm Slack is that George & Jane's marriage cert and there headstone gives George as born 1858/9 ?

George William Parkin born 1859, do you know where he was born and the name of his father?

1881 census. There is a Fred Ibbotson living on Walkley Lane with a father George and mother Mary.

It states Fred was born in 1876 but if you look at the family George was born in Penistone and some of the children born Barnsley one child was born in Ecclesfield which is not far from Oughtibridge (the birth place of Alice Parkin)

This might be a total red herring and if it is I apologise

Please don’t apologies but I don't think the 1881 is right?

My George William Parkin 1859 was born Oughtibridge. George's father seems more difficult!! George first marriage was to Martha Fairest 29 Jan 1883 and his marriage cert give fathers name as "Ann Parkin (spinster)" On the 1891/1901 they are at Officers Row & Stanley Fold Oughtibridge and the 1911 at Beeley Road Oughtibridge. Martha (Fairest) Parkin died 1914 and George married my great Aunt Jane Ibbotson (Stanley Fold) 10 June 1916 Oughtibridge. There marriage cert does show a father for George... difficult to read... but it looks like Henry a steel forgeman deceased

PS. Martha, George & Jane are on there headstone in Birtin Cemetery. GRO shows a George William Parkin 1859 Wortley but no mothers name.
