Family Tree

Hi All,
I'm hitting a brick wall in a tree that I am doing for a friend. It should be easy, but nothing is coming up. I am looking for the parents of Arthur Desmond Mitchell, born Sheffield 1924.
Thank you for any hints anyone may have.

Re: Family Tree

Hi Melanie.

From FreeBMD.

Births Sep 1924
Mitchell Arthur D Cauthron Sheffield 9c 837

Now go to the GRO index and check it out.......

Re: Family Tree

Elaine, gro Index gives mmn only up 1920. However it confirms that Arthur D Mitchell b q3 1924 was Arthur Desmond
Free bmd gives marriage for Arthur H Mitchell to Dorothy Cawthron Q4 1923 Ecclesall bierlow.
Free bmd has his siblings mmn Cawthron.

Re: Family Tree

That's a Walkley marriage and it is on this site.

Married in the presence of Charles Savage, Lilian Cawthron.

I presumed it was Cawthorn ......Do you have the original Hugh???

Re: Family Tree

Four siblings, all with the spelling CAWTHRON, married in Walkley 1923-5

Two of them, Cyril and Lillian, are wrongly transcribed as CAWTHORN on this site, which is our fault :frowning: . The originals are at FMP and they all clearly sign CAWTHRON

Re: Family Tree

Thanks Hugh I will follow through with them and change to Cawthron.

Re: Family Tree

Thank you everyone,
I’ve ordered a birth certificate now but you have cleared up what I needed to know, it was the spelling on the BMD which was throwing me as it looks like Cauthron, and there hadn’t been any of those in Sheffield since the 1700’s from what I could see.
Thanks again.
