I have just found the Sheffield Indexers forum as I have just started to research my family tree.
Joseph Hallewell (bricklayer) (Spouse Mary Ellen) was my Great great grandfather born 1853, my grandfather Wallace was born 1895, and his son Wallace born 01/07/1922 was my father.
I know they lived at the following addresses in Sheffield:
164 Matilda St, 121 South St, 131 Brittain St and I believe 5 Shoreham St
Joseph and Mary Ellen had 13 children although only 8 survived, their names are :-
Derek, my mistake. From GRO Index the children of Joseph and Mary Ellen all had mmn Mellor. JOSEPH MARRIED MARY ELLEN MELLOR in 1874 Ecclesall Bierlow 1874

Do you have census and BMD's for these people? That's where you need to start if you haven't already. Don't forget to check the GRO especially as it gives mother maiden name.
Picture Sheffield maybe able to help with old photos of the area where they lived.
Personal photos would have to come from a relative.
Hi Derek,
You may find a visit to Picture Sheffield website useful in giving you an idea of what housing and industries were like on the streets you mention. picturesheffield.com
That is great info Dave as I was going down the Stevenson path, I would have wasted a lot of time with that. I will now investigate Mellor. Many thanks for your help.
Thank you for your advice, I had not heard of the GRO ... but I will investigate that this morning. Thank you for taking time out to assist me in my quest.
