Convalescent children’s home on 1891 census

Hi! I’ve been doing my family history and found that in the 1841 census my great great grandad Thomas R E Kimpton was living away from his parents in a convalescent home. His brother and mother at an address with his grandmother and I have no idea where his father is at this point. (Although it does look like he died in an asylum). Anyway, I’m looking to know if anyone knows the name of such a place. The census says Hallam but I can’t find record of the home. Thankyou!

Hi Bethany,

It’s listed in the 1905 directory on this site. It was just called Hallam Head Convalescent Home.

Thanks for that info Hugh. I used to live up that way when I was a kid and only now realize where Barncliffe Rd and Barncliffe Crescent got their names from! It had never occurred to me before now.
