Does anyone know where I can look to see if someone was divorced around this time please? I've looked in the newspapers and nothing has turned up.

If you look at National Archives under Divorce you will see that the simple answer to your question is no.
If you find a remarriage for one of the married pair then it would be a safe assumption that there was a divorce. However getting records in that period for a divorce other than your own would be most unlikely, if not impossible. Of course if a divorce was newsworthy there would be something in newspapers. They would be very rare.
