Irish Ancestors

Hi,
Just wondering what research tools people use when looking at Irish ancestry. Are some genealogy sites better than others? I only have FMP at the minute but it’s not helping me. I’m willing to subscribe to another if recommended. Any pointers or advice for me?
Many thanks,
Claire

Re: Irish Ancestors

years ago I used Roots Ireland when you could buy credits as I do have some irish in me but not much. I gave up when it went to a subscription because I felt it was pricey. Not sure if this still applies or if they have gone back to credits. John

One site that might help.

Do you know the County they came from?
A time period would help.

You could try

Irish Genealogy

You might be lucky.
I have found it useful and it is free.

Re: Irish Ancestors

Many thanks guys, I will take a look. My dad was from Kerry and I have a very faded handwritten history but I have never looked into it at all, although as a small child my dad took me to a little village in Bedfordshire and said that’s where we originated, before our ancestors went over to Ireland. I thought researching mums line would be easier until I got to great grandma who was illegitimate & then great grandad who was from Ireland. I was told he was from Tipperary but I’m not sure if that’s right. I think I have gg grandmas maiden name but I can’t find a marriage on FMP or family search. I’ll check out the sites you’ve suggested, thank you.
