Ritter's wrongful-death trial set for Feb.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24 (UPI) --
A wrongful death lawsuit brought by the kin of late U.S. television star John Ritter against the doctors who treated him is reportedly set to begin next month. Actress Amy Yasbeck, Ritter's widow, said she told her then-5-year-old daughter, Stella, in 2003 that her father's death was unavoidable. However, Yasbeck said she now believes otherwise. "The doctors told it to me like I was 5 and I told it to her like she was 5," Yasbeck told the Los Angeles Times. "The truth is, it's a lot more complicated and it's a lot more sad." Attorneys for Ritter's family are criticizing the care Ritter received from the doctor who interpreted the results of a body scan he had in 2001, and from another who treated him the night he died in 2003 at the age of 54, the Times said. However, defense lawyers maintain their clients committed no wrongdoing. A Los Angeles County jury will have to decide who is right. The trial is set to begin early next month. Best-known for his roles in "Three's Company" and "8 Simple Rules," Ritter suffered from an aortic dissection, which was not identified until right before his death, the Times said.
