Nice job on the site. I was in Alert in 72 as a morse operator and in 94 as the OpsO. Enjoyed the second tour much more than the first. Great read, really enjoyed pics and comments. I was the chauffeur for the 50th flight and agree with the comment about the pictures in the Mess, that was the CO he had no initiative or courage.

Spent 6 months in Alert in mid 80s as Tech WO. Before that did 15 mos on DEW Line as Radician at CAM3 then 3 years at NRHQ Yellowknife. Fell in love with the north. Returned to Alert three times after \'87 on maintenance runs. Great experience.

I love the pictures, especially the scenery and the historical photos. So much to go through on your website. It\'s already kept me up way past my bedtime. But thanks for preserving all that history.

Looking for Info on the Anniversay of the Crash

Where are you from?

I was the Thule Ops/Training OIC & the base's SAR officer & USAF Liaison for BoxTop

Comments:

I remember the night this occurred. I spoke with many of the pax and the crew in Base Ops before they departed on the flight. I also remember many of the Boxtop Ops members who worked round the clock trying to get rescue members to the survivors. None have been forgotten -- they are remembered by those in both forces.

Where are you from?

Presently posted to Calgary in support of the PRes - now 41 CBG Supt Clk and HQ Sgt-Maj.

Comments:

Hey Troyanuk,
I vaguely remember you however I do remember your wife Betty who used to work in the HQ bldg at CFS Masset.
I was extremely fortunate to have been posted to CFS Masset from 88-91 and from 95-97 (pretty good for a non-291er) in the Comptroller Section. It was quite a sad thing to remember the vibrancy of my first posting, then to come back to close (remote) the place down to a size of approx 20 personnel. I have great memories of that place.
Now to Alert - I was also very fortunate to have been the S Adm O for the period Feb - Aug 2007. During my tenure a large amount of change initiatives occurred. The Station Library was significantly downsized, the Radio Station was closed/dismantled, the Wings (rooms) were modified, the house bars closed and other less significant things took place.
I absolutely loved my 6 1/2 months there; it was intensely busy/hectic and very rewarding. Alas, there were no 291ers in Alert however things are what they are.
I do have other pics/video of the CC130 crash site (those brave souls will never be forgotten) and other area from my many hiking excursions if you would like more.
Regards,
Les Bowden

I am an old Comm Researcher 291er. I did 2 tours at Alert. It was interesting up there. It never snowed, it is a desert there. I would love to go there again, but not for a 6 month stay. The diamond in the cave is a must to see.
