Well spotted Joe
This is a release from "Music Club Deluxe" but it isn't listed on their own website yet. They specialise in 2CD best of releases at budget prices. The packaging is usually quite nice on these releases with good sleevenotes and the CD case comes inside a cardboard slip case.
I suspect that this will be a 2CD reissue of EMI material only. They are just about to release a Kim Wilde compilation and it only includes her EMI material and none of her later MCA material. Interestingly though, it includes some songs from her 2006 "comeback" album with EMI which was never given a physical release in the UK. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collection-Kim-Wilde/dp/B006W33T6Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1327239835&sr=1-1)
I hope that I'm wrong but this may put Cherry Red off of continuing with any of the EMI album reissues (not that there was ever any confirmation that any more were planned).
I'm looking forward to seeing the final tracklisting.
Wow Joe, we would never know anything new about Sheena if you weren't on it ! Good going. I see this double CD is slated for April 9. An early b'day prezzie for Sheena. Obviously the track listing will have the usual suspects for the most part but a double album could hold some nice surprises. Can't wait !!
As for Cherry Pop, their other releases by Sheena probably didn't sell that great and that's why they haven't yet put out other CDs by her. They released 4-5 by Kim Wilde in quick succession by comparison. Also, although I'm always happy when there's any Sheena release, their reissue of Lover in me was ill advised I think. The 'bonus' tracks left a lot to be desired for one thing - there are SO many great remixes of those singles out there and they chose the most boring ones. Plus the cd itself is so easy to get on the used market to this day in it's original issue (very cheaply too.) Additionally, it should have come out with a dvd featuring all those hot videos. Also, Cherry Pop should have touted the reissues - lover... and Take my time long they before they were due for release . Isn't that what record companies do before they release a new album ? Many casual fans probably didn't even know they were available again.
I thought I would jump in the mix here about the new collection coming in April. It is nice that we are getting a new compilation cd again but like Sabeha has mentioned I am hoping that we get some nice surprises with it. I also agree with Sabeha about the the lover in me, I don't even think it was remastered as it was promoted by Cherry Red and I was really hoping that they would have included the original extended mix of "No deposit, No return" which is a mix I do not have on cd in my collection.
I am hoping that maybe some songs from Fabulous will be included possibly with some remixes on the new cd would make it a special collection. Here in the states Sheena is not mention in music at all and that is shame because she is an 80's icon. I know people here still know her from Vegas but that is about it. This is just my opinion. I still welcome anything new from the Diva. :)
I hope everyone is doing well in 2012 so far, and I can't wait to hear the opinions of the new collection soon.
Shout out to you Sabeha. It has been to long. :)
I have been in touch with MCD and they will be sending me a tracklist and the artwork shortly.
The release date is incorrect. Watch this space
Just noticed on amazon that all music club deluxe future releases are shown as 'sign up to be notified when available'
Hope it doesn't mean the company's in trouble, have already preordered cd and heard nothing direct from amazon so fingers crossed:
Full album details and links to purchase it are now on the news pages at http://www.sheenaeaston.co.uk
Must admit to being a bit disappointed at the tracklisting.
There's nothing new at all, had thought perhaps there might have been some of the songs from the spanish album, also some unreleased tracks??
I'm not surprised with the tracklisting at all. They did say that it was EMI material, it's aimed at the UK market so the Spanish material isn't that much of a selling point, and we don't know if any unreleased material exists (I'm guessing that it's unlikely).
A definitive best of covering her whole career would have been amazing, but until EMI/MCA/Universal become one company then we'll have to make do with re-hashes of the early most commercially successful period of her career.
£4.99 for a 2CD album will hopefully attract some casual Sheena listeners to purchase and enjoy a lot of songs that they aren't familiar with.
I've already pre-ordered it even though, like most of you, I already have every song on it.
Yes, I wasn't surprised at the tracklisting, just disappointed.
To be honest, I've cancelled my preorder as for me, I don't see the point in rebuying the same songs again and again.
On a more positive note, it's a good collection for the casual Sheena fan and hopefully might increase interest in Sheena!
I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents of information I know here stateside. If you have ever gone on Itunes and notice "My Cherie" and "No Strings" are available for download it also says they are Geffen releases and that is because music mogal David Geffen owns the MCA catalog from the late 80's and 90's of those artists signed to the label at that time and Sheena is one of those artists.
It seems like he is not releasing any of the catalog anytime soon for some reason and that is why Sheena's MCA material like "The Lover In Me" and "What Comes Naturally" is not released in remastered format here stateside. I am guessing also the reason why the Prince duets are not included is because the rights are owned by Paisley Park and Warner Brothers for "U Got The Look" and "The Arms of Orion" so until they decide to let others to the rights to those songs we will not not see them on any compilation.
It is a pitty, but we can only hope. I am not 100% sure on this but I have researched alot about this issue and from what I have been told this is it.
I hope Sheena plans to record something soon even if it is not a chart success it does not have to be because she has done all that already. She should be recording for herself and her fans.
Peace out and shout out to Sabeha.
I've often thought a duets album would be a good way for Sheena to relaunch her career. I've listed below the duets I can remember her doing
u got the look - prince
the arms of orion - prince
we've got tonight - kenny rogers
now and forever - barry manilow
Is there anyone - julian lennon
What if we fall in love - eugene wilde
on my own - Terry Donald
the place where we belong - jeffry osbourne
Plus perhaps 4 or 5 new duets, with some of todays bigger stars?
You forget Still In Love, with Steve Perry. Sure, he sang background vocals only. But his fans consider it a duet!
Also the Spanish ones with Dyango and Luis Miguel.
What about the All Dogs movie duets with the guy who sang for Charlie Sheen? The titles escape me.
That's actually a lot of duets.
But I like your idea.
Actually, I wish Sheena would do another album of standards. Or even Broadway. Or just evergreen ballads. Hey, if Ronan Keating (he sounds like a sheep to me) can do a Bacharach album, I don't see why Sheena, a far superior singer way beyond his league, can't do something like that too.
Can't believe I forgot the spanish ones (and there's me whinging about no spanish songs on the collection!)
Pleased someone else thinks that about ronan keating, the bloke can't sing (in my humble opinion!)
Would love to hear sheena do broadway, still remember her version of maybe this time at the royal variety show, she was incredible.
What about a Streisand tribute album?
Someone please tell me about this Royal Variety sHow performance where Sheena sang a Broadway song/ I haven't heard it. Does anyone have a copy of the clip?
I've never been able to find a copy of it!
Sheena sang MAYBE THIS TIME from Cabaret....It was spectacular......But sadly i have yet to find it online...i had it on Beta video 30 years ago
album now only 3.97 on amazon plus postage
The above guy has the show for sale but it's £18.00.
I've emailed him via youtube as he's uploaded some of the performances from the 1982 show and asked if he'd upload Sheena's performance, but don't hold out much hope.
Wow, joe, thanks for the information! I''ll keep my fingers crossed.
I'd always thought Sheena sang When He Shines at the show, not a Broadway song.
When he shines was I think in the 1980 show.
Heard back from the guy and he's concerned due to the fact that his youtube page might be pulled down due to copyright, but he says he MIGHT try uploading it in the next few weeks!!
The album seems to be selling quite well on amazon, 397 bestselling album this morning.
Considering there's no promotion and other compilations available, its doing well.
Still selling quite well on amazon uk, highest position so far 230 in the bestseller list!! (and yes I did buy it in the end!!) I'm hoping if it sells well, they might do a volume 2!! Well I can always dream
