Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Postal Chess - 8 Years of Data

Hi Grayling,
I was not quite following your reasoning.

"that does not mean that they should allow a vocal small minority to impose their will on the majority."
Funny how nicely this statement fits with the DMD situation!
First of all in your figures over 8 years, they contains the start of email events as well as server events, which both had an impact on the number of events by post. Natural and not unexpected.

Besides there is a very vocal minority saying that ICCF shall abolish postal play. On a very high level in ICCF. As this is a fact then it needs to be informed of that this is not fair to the minority of postal players. Really if there exist players who still enjoy CC by post - I see no reason for ICCF to throw us out. I belive we both agree on this point.

It seems that around 2.000 players are still playing by post or by postal rules for those preferring this name. If you read the posting by Eugen - he claims that ONLY ONE wish to play in the WCh by 2007 post. I'm not really sure what he means by ONLY ONE - if it means that he can be left out and asked to leave ICCF? Or whatever? An other says that he feels left out because he has been registred as not a bonafide postal player. Even though he qualified by postal play. To me this is a bit strange. But I guess it was a way to not get that many postal players.

Anyway again the aim is, and in my mind its an moral obligation, for ICCF to see to that players who qualify for a World Championship final must be allowed to play in a final without having to change his playing mode. Particulary from post to server! Its two rather "different" games. And to this the Congress was unanimous. No minority.

I promote ICCF in all its transmission forms but I feel its important that we can avoid statements as the above from Peter about how he looks down on the WCh 17 and 20 because of their Cat of 13 instead of the Cat 14 which is in email WCh. So I - me and all ICCF Delegates in Dresden - wish to see no separate WCh but one open to all.

Best, Per

PS International - well we have over 40 countries in Europe, each and every one very different from each other. That Latin America and Africa/Asia has decided to not play by post is their choice. Nobody force them to play by post if they don't wish. Germany is by far the biggest federation and they dominate not only postal CC but also server and email events. In 7-players groups you have 3 Germans...
