Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Postal Chess - 8 Years of Data

Hello Per,

I'm not realy trying to prove anything. We typically see much opinion on TCCMB, but not too many facts.

I suppose the main things I see in the data is that the number of "typical" postal players, i.e. Master, Higher, & Open class has been decreasing for a number of years. Certainly there are spikes in the entries based on postal World Cups or special postal tournament, but the fact remains postal entries have dropped from 705 to 185 in a 7-year period.

From the limited data I have seen, international postal chess is essentially finished. When almost half of your entries come from one country and the bulk of the rest come from the same zone that does say something negative about the transmission mode.

As long as the ICCF is going to be the "official" international correspondence chess organization I believe that it needs to continue to support postal transmission. However, that does not mean that they should allow a vocal small minority to impose their will on the majority.

All the best,
Grayling
