Re: Re: Postal Chess - Actually it Declined 26 Percent Last Year

Games completed is based on old information and it is also bad measure because a postal game takes longer to finish compared to e-mail or server game. So finished postal games started much earlier than finished email or server games.

Let’s try to get better estimate. Two recent tournaments:

World Cup XV
15 email groups (1 - 15)
56 server groups (16 - 71)

World Cup XVI (postal only)

24 postal groups

Both of these tournaments started late 2006.

Total groups 95

percentages:
server 59%
email 16%
postal 25%

server vs. email:
server 79%
email 21%

Then we have 60 Years BdF:

20 email groups
15 postal groups
53 server groups

Total 88 groups

percentages:
server 60%
email 23%
postal 17%

server vs. email
27 % email
73 % server

So it looks like percentage of postal play is somewhere between 17% - 25%. For some reason participants of 60 Years BdF like quite much email

Regards,

Nuutti
