Competition Hotting Up
In the mens race it looks like Wayne Reid from Athlone Triathlon Club will successfully defend his title for the third time unless the up-and-coming juniors currently contesting second place, Midland's Gavin Doran and Athlone's John Reidy, can pull off a surprise win. Both Gavin and John have consistently beaten Wayne in the swim but can they hold on to that lead over the 4km run to uncrown the reigning champ?

Lanesboro Tri Club were dominate in the womens race in round 2 with Rosemarie Masterson and Ciara Sheridan taking 1st and 3rd. Rosemarie seems to have things under control and looks to have 1st place in the bag. Athlone's Catrina O'Donohoe took second in round 1 with Mullingar's Daire Kavanagh taking 3rd. Things changed in round 2 though with new faces appearing which put the cat amoung the pidgeons, with Aileen O'Reilly, Athlone Tri Club coming home in 2nd and Ciara Sheridan, Lanesboro placing 3rd. Second and third will be decided this week but who gets it is anybody's guess.

The inter-club challenge between Mullingar and Athlone is very tightly contested this year. After round 2 there is very little in it. Both clubs have it all to run for in round 3 with each place counting as vital points. Mullingar won the title in 2010. Can they make it two in a row or will Athlone have something to say about that!
