AIT & Athlone Triathlon Club to Host Endurance Sports Conference

AIT & Athlone Triathlon Club to Host Sports Conference
Seminar 15th February 6.30pm at AIT (Earl of Rosse Theatre)
Entry fee €5

Evening includes: ATC Gear Fitting from 5.30pm

3 Speakers:
Giles Warrington - Periodisation for the endurance athlete
Enda King - Injury prevention and treatment
Lachlan Mitchell – Nutrition for the endurance athlete

The seminar will be of particular benefit to endurance athletes. Giles Warrington is Head Sports Physiologist to the Olympic Council of Ireland and was a member of the medical team at the Athens Olympics. He is Irelands top sports physiologist and will present on ‘periodisation for the endurance athlete’. Enda King is a Chartered Physiotherapist currently working in the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry and will speak about injury prevention and treatment. Lachlan Mitchell holds two degrees in nutrition dietetics and also exercise and sport science. He will provide sports nutrition information.

Giles Warrington
Giles Warrington is a Sport and Exercise Physiologist and Lecturer in the School of Health and Human Performance at DCU. He is also Head Sports Physiologist to the Olympic Council of Ireland and was a member of the medical team at the Athens Olympics. Prior to taking up his academic role at DCU, he worked for 12 years at the National Coaching and Training Centre where he was Head of Player/Athlete Services. Giles was also previously employed by the British Olympic Association where he worked as an Exercise Physiologist at the British Olympic Medical Centre. Over the past 18 years, he has gained extensive experience working with and advising elite athletes from over 20 different sports, both Olympic and non Olympic.

Enda King - Chartered Sports Physiotherapist
Enda is a Chartered Physiotherapist currently working in the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry. He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin with an honours degree in Physiotherapy and has recently returned from Perth, Australia where he completed his Masters in Manipulative Therapy, achieved with Distinction, in Curtin University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
His career has focussed on sports and his experience includes Gaelic Games, Soccer, Rugby and Australian Rules. He developed his experience with the Australian Rules Football team, West Coast Eagles, and the Western Australian Institute of Sport during his time in Australia. He is an avid Gaelic footballer who has played for Cavan at all levels and still plays senior football for his club team Cavan Gaels.
Enda’s main clinical interests are in back pain and chronic lower limb injuries especially chronic groin pain and recurrent hamstring injuries. He also has a keen interest in injury prevention intervention through appropriate screening and conditioning. He has carried out research in this area with Gaelic footballers, which has been published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Lachlan Mitchell - Dietitian, Exercise and Sport Scientist
Lachlan is a current member of the Buccaneers Senior panel. He grew up in Sydney, completing two degrees in nutrition, dietetics, exercise and sport science at the University of Sydney, graduating in 2008. He has an abundance of experience in weight loss and diabetes whilst working as a dietitian at Westmead and Hervey Bay Hospitals and as an exercise specialist at a small gym in Sydney. Since graduating he has also lectured in nutrition and exercise at the Australian Catholic University, and has worked as a consultant dietitian at NSWIS, providing sports nutrition advice to athletes.

Eilis Dolan – Injury prevention & treatment

Eilis graduated from the University of Ulster with an honors degree in Physiotherapy in 1996 and she has completed her Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in Cardiff University in 2004. Her primary thesis being on Lower limb biomechanics of distance running

She is an experienced sports physiotherapist who has worked extensively in the UK, Australia and Ireland with sports athletes from recreational to Elite. She is currently working as a Clinical Specialist/ Head of Physiotherapy in Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry.

Her career has focused mainly on sports with a particular interest in athletes, field and track, taekwondo, rugby soccer and GAA. She also has experience in athletes coaching in running clubs in the UK. Her particularly clinical expertise is in Lower limb biomechanics and spinal rehabilitation. She is currently the clinical lead in biomechanical assessment and orthotic prescription and heads up the Specialized Spinal service, including triage, back fit, Pilates and advanced functional re-habilitation. She is also a Certified Pilates instructor.
Eilis has actively competed in field and track events with middle distance running been her main discipline she now throws herself into the fun sport of adventure racing and has participated in the grueling Gael force west event.
