Harrison Road

Hi all

Wondering if someone could kindly answer another couple of queries?

Which church is the most likely for a baptism for a child born in Woodview Road in 1902?

Which school would a child living in Harrison Road in the early 1900s have attended?

With many thanks in anticipation!

Re: Harrison Road

Hi Jance,,

Woodview Rd is at Walkley Bank, so I would presume it was St Mary's Walkley. But if you have the 1901 census for the family the top right hand corner ( I think) will have the Ecclesiastical Parish that street is in.

Harrison Rd runs from Ball St to Dykes Lane, Hillsborough. Same general area as Woodview and I am sure that it would have been Morley St School. Most of the old Board Schools were built about the 1880's. I have just found the RD and wonder if it could have been Malin Bridge School. On a current map there is a school right at the corner of Dykes Lane & Wisewood Rd. Maybe Hugh can straighten us out.

Regards.

Re: Harrison Road

Hi Janice, Malin Bridge School was just two streets up Dykes lane from Harrison Rd so would possibly be the first choice. Morley st would be to far away. Regards Barry

Re: Harrison Road

Hello
I used to live in Harrison Road in the 1950s. I went to Malin Bridge School and to Saint Polycarp's Church.
Best wishes

Re: Harrison Road

Thanks Terry for the confirmation of the school; sorry for the delay in reply, I've just seen your message.

If you lived in Harrison Road in the 1950s, I wonder if you ever heard of a Butler family living there in the 1940s? Probably a long shot!

Re: Harrison Road

Hello Janice

I don't think I remember a family called Butler, but you could try giving me some more clues - eg the number of their house, ages of the children?
I do remember a few people there. I was born in 1949 and lived at number 61 Harrison Road until 1959. Some of my relations also lived nearby for many years afterwards; and my mother taught at Wisewood School until the 1970's. Some of her pupils there had been my classmates at Malin Bridge Junior School.

Best wishes

Re: Harrison Road

Hi,

I also attended Malin Bridge at the same time as Terry and I remember that several of my classmates came from quite a distance away up Stannington Rd and close to Rivelin Park.

I believe that Malin Bridge records are still held by the school.
