Esther Neild Stanfield

Dear Indexers,

The above person was born in 1847 and on 18th April 1870 married Charles Flint.

I am struggling to find a baptism and a birth record for her so I am thinking her birth was not registered or she was illegitamate and therefore unsure of her surname at birth.

She was buried in 1898 but not with Charles and on the burial record says she was a widow.

if any of you great detectives can enlighten me on who her parents were and when Charles died it would be truly appreciated.

regards

John

As discussed previously you need to give all the information you have so far, including where you've already searched, the search parameters you've used, details (father, address etc) from the marriage, any census you've found her on.

This helps stop duplication of effect and helps people to narrow down any searches.

Re: Esther Neild Stanfield

Sorry Denise,

I have searched FMP and the GRO index using Stanfield and Nield as surnames even usingh variants on FMP.

I can only assume as I say that her birth was perhaps not registered.

The marriage certificate did say her father was George.

Re: Esther Neild Stanfield

PS now in a quandry as the 1881 census says born Sheffield for her the 1871 census says born Lincoln.

At St. Silas Church: … Mr. Chas Flint to Miss Esther Nield, Stainfield (sic).

Marriage record garbled? or newspaper garbled?

I note both parties signed with an X.

If you go back to the marriage her father is Thomas, a deceased shoemaker. Follow the Lincoln line and search for baptisms with more variants of the middle and surname using wildcards, with father Thomas.

Re: Esther Neild Stanfield

Your Charles Flint. A death possibility:

At the 1891 census a Charles Flint age 50 born Sheffield, wife Esther age 46 born Lincoln and family were at 23 Oxford Road, Ecclesall Bierlow. He was Knife & fork caster.

FindAGrave.com has this record.
Charles Flint, birth about 1840, death 23 June 1893, age 53, Sheffield General Cemetery, burial 28 June 1893.

There is an image of the register at FamilySearch.org.
It was hard to find with a weird surname transcription but hopefully I have been allowed to correct it. You will find it at film 004167819 image 18. The image adds: last address 13 Ct Hodgson St and he was a fork caster. Address is not a match with 1891 but the occupation and age are close.

Re: Esther Neild Stanfield

To everyone, thank you, seems strange that esther was not buried with Charles though but I suppose cost comes into it.
