Marriage 1876

My ancestors married 5 th June 1876 in Sheffield.
I cannot read from the computer.
I know he married Lucy Tagg.
He was born Eastrington ,Yorkshire.
I don't know his age on the marriage, but he was born 1851,
So it should say twenty five.
I don't know his father's name on the certificate,
Does it say Bachelor?
I have found a marriage in Eastrington for 1870. For a John BULLEMENT.
Marriage to Margaret Scaum( unusual surname)
The writing is bad to me.
Can you help me with this please

Re: Marriage 1876

Good morning Mary,

I have checked with FreeBMD and our transcriptions. John Bullement & Lucy Tagg.

If you look over to the left in the menu you will see "Parish Records" Nine down.

Click on that and it will take you to the search field.

One of the headers you will note says marriages. Click on that.

I entered Lucy Tagg and on the search it turned up Lucy Tagg aged 26 a widow with the date you gave. The marriage took place at Sheffield Parish Church.

If you then again click on marriage and enter John's name you will see its a match and gives you the information you asked about.

Any further difficulty please let us know.

Elaine in Ottawa.

Re: Marriage 1876

If you go over to the left where the menu is click on parish records.

If you then click on the marriage tab and input the name Lucy Tagg.

It then tells you who she married and who her father was.

Click on the tab that says shows other person etc

You will then find John Bullement and it will tell you who his father is.

As you can see this is a transcription and some of the info they could not read.

Hope this helps.

John

Elaine strikes again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Marriage 1876

Thankyou. I will have a go.

The 1870 marriage in Eastrington ,Yorkshire, where he was born.
I was wondering if that was him too. he had no parents. so a little white lie saying he was over twenty one could be. He put George Bullement has his father. His mother never married ,no man on the census. His grandfather was called George Bullement.
I was wondering if he never divorced. And this was him too.
Another go.

Re: Marriage 1876

Hi Mary

The John Bullement who married Margaret Scaum in Eastrington in 1870 couldn’t write his own name, he signed with a cross. If you look for John and Margaret in the 1871 census you’ll find them in Eastrington, listed as Bulliment. John was 47, so born 1823/24. I think the reason he put “full age” on the marriage record was to hide the 26 year age difference between him and bride, who was still a minor.

The John who married Lucy in Sheffield was 24 when he married, so born ca 1852. He could sign his own name. Not the same guy as the bloke up in Eastrington.

Re: Marriage 1876

The name BULLEMENT as been spelt in different ways. It was nice to see one spelt correctly.

Re: Marriage 1876

I have just been thinking. The John BULLEMENT in Eastrington who married in 1870 .there is a connection.
My Great grandmother Jane BULLEMENT it is her brother . So John Bullement who married in Sheffield. ( Where he was born was Eastrington ) It was his uncle.
His mother couldn't read or write and I have seen crosses on certificates.
I know their father was George Bullement and that is the name on the 1870 marriage..
Thankyou everybody.

Re: Marriage 1876

John Bullement born 1851 ish was born in the Howden registration district. Mother's name left blank so he was illegitimate. This is of course if Eastrington is in the Howden registration area.

Did your ancestor Jane have any sisters or is it possible Jane is John's mother and that Lomas on the mc is just a ficticious name to show he had a father.

You can order a digital copy of John's bc of 1851 for £3 from the GRO it coumes as a download within minutes.

Re: Marriage 1876

Hello
John's mother was Jane Bullement . ( 1813 to 1862 ) they are on the 1861 census .Howden is the area I get my certificates from.
They lived in Eastrington a few miles away.
Ambrose is also her son.I have his birth certificate , father left blank.
Lomas is a little white lie.
Jane had a sister Mary BULLEMENT she put the cross on her death certificate. Now I know she had a brother John who I got mixed up with the marriages. 1870.
Jane also had another son William bullement ( 1837 1890)
He also moved from Eastrington to Sheffield. I went to his paupers grave in Sheffield.
Janes father was George bullement. The marriage I got mixed up with in 1870 John ( now I know she had a brother) George was down as his father.
I will look for John's birth certificate ( 1851 1916).
There will be no fathers name on that certificate. I know he put Lomas on his marriage certificate .
Thankyou for taking an interest. I'm sure there are still their children and their children living in Sheffield.
