After a marathon dig over the last few days I have found that I have a connection to Sheffield's (by marriage) only WW1 Victoria Cross receiver.

James Welch born 7th July 1889 died 28 June 1978. Born in Stratfield Saye Hampshire.
Married into my Barnes Family from Wadsley. (2nd cousin twice removed)

His children were born at Crookes.
He died in Bournmouth.

I am trying to get in touch with Chris Hobbs but his site says he has a new email address from the one I had from many years ago.

Chris's web site is well worth a read for anyone interested in the history of Sheffield.

When clicking on the highlighted script that says "I have a new email Address' it comes up with the following......chrishobbs16@gmail.com
I am unsure if this is his new address, not having emailed him before only looking at his website, which like you say is really interesting.

You do not say what email you have already fr Chris Hobbs.
On his website, click on the new email address title and what comes up is:
chrishobbs16@gmail.com
