1920’s schools

Thank you for helping with my previous question.
I am keen to find out about my Grandfathers school years. Any idea how I find out which school he went to and any information available regarding his education.

Re: 1920’s schools

Hi,

You say the 1920's???

Do you know where he was living in 1921?

What year was he born and his name.

NOT all schools gave their registers up to Sheffield Archives so we may still not be able to help.

Elaine.

Re: 1920’s schools

Hi Elaine
He was living in Ellington street
His name was Eric Marsden and he was born in 1913
Hope you can help?

Re: 1920’s schools

Hi Erica,
Cannot find an Ellington Street in Sheffield did you mean Ellison Street where Eric was born..??
Ellison Street is in the S3 district and appears to have a number of primary school choices. My old school is one of them..Springfield School. Another is Pyebank Primary, Netherthorpe Prim. there is also Byronwood Prim. which is in the S4 district, but still comes up (on the internet) as the nearest school to Ellison St.

Re: 1920’s schools

Hi Erica,

As Wendy has pointed out the Street is Ellison St as per the 1921 census.

Many thanks

Re: 1920’s schools

Looking in the 1923 Kelly’s directory, the closest looks to be Netherthorpe Council School on Bethel St.

Re: 1920’s schools

My last post on this subject (yesterday) doesn't seem to have been posted.

The info from Heather matches what I posted. It is on a 1905 Alan Godfrey Map but not named.
BUT Netherthorpe St Runs to one side of the school.

Elaine.
