Hello. I’m trying to locate the burial records for James and Teresa Bryan I can’t seem to locate anything, but presumed that they were buried in Sheffield as they had settled there. Death records confirm that James was killed in an industrial accident aged 39 yrs on 2nd April 1885 at the Atlas steel Works where he was an iron moulder. There was a coroners inquest on fourth of May 1885 with the death Registered on the 6th of May 1885 in the Brightside area. His wife Teresa died 26th March 1890 aged 42 Yrs, there was also a coroners inquest for her on 31st March 1880 The death was registered in the Attercliffe area at Whitworth Lane Attercliffe, which is where I believe that they lived. They were originally from Ireland, and were Roman Catholic, Having first moved to Manchester and later to Sheffield, They were previously known as O’Brien and are using the name, Bryan in Sheffield. I can locate James’ parents burial record (John OBryan and Eliza Ellen) at City Road Cemetery. Any information or advice would be much appreciated, many thanks, Amanda
I have checked our burials,FMP & the CD with NBI information out and like yourself have not found anything for either of them using Bryan,O'Brien & OBryan.
On the 1881 census James and Theresa Bryan are listed as both being born in Manchester.Son John also.
1891 census Manchester also. another child born Mar of 1885. Charles William.

The marriage you quoted has Grooms Parents as Patrick and Anna.
Hi Elaine. So sorry you are correct. I tried to do this off my phone so got confused. The parents and marriage are correct as above. John Bryan/ O’Bryan is James and Teresa’s son who I can find burial records for him. he married Eliza Ellen Kenworthy.

Amand,
To get back to the original question, ie the missing burials of James Bryan, 1885 and his widow Theresa 1890.
Looking at the newspaper reports I assume there was no burial for James in 1885. He died in a vat of molten metal. I suggest there may have been no identifiable remains to bury.
As to his widow who died in Attercliffe in 1890: I note that our Burial records for Attercliffe Cemetery stop at 1887 and it seems that FMP is the same. I suggest you obtain the S&DFHS CD of those burials from Genfair at a cost of under £4
Dave
ANNE, That is the wrong person. The correct Theresa was 42 and died in March 1890. It is possible she was buried as Theresa Brown or Brian or Brien or even O'Br*n.
DAVE
The reason I asked about the children was that when I looked at Charles William BRYAN on the GRO index the mothers maiden name is Mettam?
Where were the children baptised especially Walter... MMN other than Charles was Burns.
Could Teresa have died after the birth of Walter and his father re married??
Hi Elaine
Charles William Bryan born Dec quarter 1882 Sheffield, mother’s maiden name is Burns.
The other post about the death of Teresa Brown is the correct person, incorrect surname in the reports Kind regards Amanda
I had Charles William as being born in 1885 as I believe the 1891 census had him down as being seven years old. It was hard to read..... I believe he was with his older brother John.

Hello Dave,
Sorry for the late response. I’ve just been a bit overwhelmed by the responses on here. I’m going to get a copy of that CD as this makes the most sense given the location of where they lived and the fact that other family members are buried at Attercliffe. I’ve had a bit of a break from researching my family history But have re-looked at some of the newspaper articles regarding James’ accident. One of the articles just say that his body was recovered with some difficulty, But like you did think there may not have been anything left to bury. Kind regards, Amanda
Presume you have death certificate for james. Who registered it and if child are the surnames spelt the same? Could Theresa be actually buried back in Ireland with her parents?
