Hi Barry, thank you for responding, mother’s birth name Frances Mary Pearson, became Phillips when married. Had 3 sons with husband , left marriage, had a further 2 children with someone else and then went back to the marriage without the children. When she left the marriage we believe she moved in with the other man and we think he lived in the Norton area of Sheffield.
Sue
Hi Sue, The only marriage i can find is Frances M Pearson Married Charles A Phillips 1930 Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield. If you wish you could purchase the certificate for further details. The only birth that stands out is Raymon Jeffrey Phillips 1931.
To carry on from Barry's reply I have to ask are you sure of your facts? Is it possible that Charles A Philips is your relative? If you look at FreeBMD there is no Frances Mary Pearson listed.
I would suggest that you purchase the marriage certificate even though it is years prior to what you know.
You can order a copy at a very reasonable price from the GRO. You can then rule out that marriage.
Charles Arthur Phillips is my husbands grandfather and he was married to Frances Mary Pearson , within the marriage they had 3 sons , Raymond 1931, David 1938, John 1939, some time between Jan 1940 and Dec 1945 Frances left Charles taking the two younger boys with her and sending Raymond to a relative in the Hillsborough area and went to live in the Norton/Norton Lees area, she had 2 further children very close in age as she was back with her husband by the end of 1945. She returned without the two child born to the man she went to live with. It is those two children we would like to find information on. Did they stay with their father?, were they adopted?
What we do not know is what names the children will be registered with 3 possibilities
1. The name of the father, if they both attended the register office then the father's name could be used ven though they were not married, perhaps others will correct me if I am wrong
2. Did she register them as Phillips and give her maiden name as Pearson or
3. Did she register them as Pearson left father's name blank if this is the case looking at Free BMD I can only see 4 people born Pearson MMN Pearson between 1940 and 1945
take this with a pinch of salt needs to be thouroughly checked out.
Yes I am aware of this , unfortunately both boys were very young maybe 3 or 4 years old, one of them remembers them and thinks they were both boys!!. All 3 of Frances Pearson’s born within her marriage have now sadly passed away.
I too looked at that, which lead me to believe she didn’t register them as Phillips. I’m thinking now that they were probably given the fathers name, and as such I don’t know how to get any further in finding who the father was.
Thank you I have done that and come up with 3 births in that period with mothers maiden of Pearson, is there any way from that information that I could find the fathers name to see if anyone I have found had the same father?
Sue I would suggest you send for one of the childrens birth certs.
Another long shot, did Charles have to go and serve in the forces due to WWII or was Charles in prison for some reason and if so could the man Florence went and stayed with a unknown relative.
You say you have an address but not 100% sure, have you searched that address on the 1939 register?
Have a look at the voters list for the first year after the war ( there were no electoral rolls for the war years ) look at who is living at that Aldern road address If she has not gone back to her husband you could look at all the voters living around Norton A very tedious assignment but you could find her.
It is unlikely her husband a serving police constable would have been called up for war service
