Ooh, thank you! That’s the closest we’ve ever got to finding him!
I’ll be researching that this evening
Thank you
I believe this is the 'George Frederick TRUELOVE' mentioned above.
This is a funeral service in the church followed by a burial in the adjacent municipal cemetery BUT I do not know why the dates are different
'Burial' at Christ Church Attercliffe
TRELOAR, George Frederick (~, age 6).
Died at Attercliffe; Buried on January 2, 1881 in ~ ground;
Grave Number ~, Section ~ of Christ Church Cemetery, Attercliffe.
Burial in Attercliffe Municipal Cemetery
TRELOAR, George F (Son of J Treloar, age 6).
Died at Church St; Buried on December 31, 1880 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 2200, Section D of Attercliffe Cemetery, Sheffield.
Plot Owner: of . Page No J Hissett
The position of the name 'J Hissett' in the second record is odd. perhaps it should have been entered under 'Plot Owner'.
John TRELOAR (engine tenter), his wife Mary, and others under that name, are also buried in the municipal cemetery

Another thought.. not had chance to check it out as at work but could percy be infact his middle name ie could his name have been john percy truelove and he was known as percy to avoid confusion and he therefore assumed percy was his first name
The only birth that fits is: TRELOAR, BENJAMIN BARLOW
GRO Reference: 1871 S Quarter in HARTLEPOOL Volume 10A Page 173 Its a posibility he changed his name for some reason.
Or it could be that his birth was never registered do not forget it was not compulsary to register a birth until 1875.
when his parents died where were they living as that could help us.
Could also Sheffield as place of birth be not correct
Ok this need really checking out it could well be completely wrong though so please be cautious.
Firstly lets forget about the occupation for now and also John being wrong.
In 1876 a Joseph Truelove aged 48 a widower married a Mary Davis aged 28 a widow.
Not yet found Mary's first marriage but forget to check on original her birth name (senior moment)
Could it be that Percy was born to Mary's first father but not found a Percy Davis also Davis is a common Welsh surname.
Could even it be that Percy was born prior to Mary getting married first time round and born Percy -------
As I said could be going down completely the wrong track and if so please accept my apologies.
John
This is interesting.
My latest tree (there have been many!) has a Mary Truelove, daughter of Elizabeth Truelove, as Percy’s possible mother. Elizabeth was unmarried when Mary was born, and Mary unmarried when ‘Percy’ was born. So the surname Truelove remained unchanged by husbands.
Elizabeth then married a Timothy Ledger. Mary appears at some point as Ledger, but then married an Amos Lindley, possibly after Percy’s birth. I’ve not have a Davis yet, but it crops up occasionally. Other frequently occurring names are Hill, Hurst/Hirst and Wilson.
Yes, I’ve tried Percy with all of those surnames.
HOWEVER, there was an oral family story of a name change. I’ve discounted it so far, as the change was supposedly *from* Truelove to something else, more Welsh, as they moved from Sheffield to Wales.
Unfortunately, the teller of this story was one generation back, and no longer with us. The present generation have no knowledge of it. I always thought it was Williams or Morgan, but no reason it couldn’t have been Davis/Davies.
No apology needed, I’ll happily accept any ideas!
Anne
In the 1881 census John and Mary Treloar were living in Attercliffe. He was still an engine tenter but the only children with them were Frances E (15) Annie E (13) and William H (11)
No Percy! I checked the original image for the baptism of George, and the transcription on this site is correct - the original image definitely says Truelove - but I'm starting to wonder if the minister misheard the surname.
