Re: Edward Woodhouse baptised 22 Aug 1740

Hi Heather,

Think you cracked it.......

Edward was buried 22 August 1740-1741
Baptised April 1740-1741
Hannah his mother I have buried April 1740-1741.

There is another child born in 1751 (Hannah) father William Lab.(ag) So I presume he re married but he also died in 1750-1751.

Thanks Elaine.

Re: Edward Woodhouse baptised 22 Aug 1740

Looked for a second marriage of Wm I found this in our records.

Woodhouse, William (bachelor, age ~, Cutler, residing at of Sheffield).
Married Mary Ridge, on August 8, 1739, by ~ (Banns) at
Sheffield Parish Church, Church St, Sheffield. Father's name is ~ (~).
Married in the presence of ~.

It did state on Edwards baptismal record that his father William was a cutler.

Their first child Edward is the one baptised in 1740-1741.

Re: Edward Woodhouse baptised 22 Aug 1740

Hi Heather,
I think you have more or less cracked it, thankyou. The first baptism record I looked at for Edward was illegible for father's occupation but the one shown on FMP for 1739 is quite clear and shows his occupation as cutler so that does rule out William and Hannah as his parents.

The marriage you found in 1739 for William and Mary Ridge would fit Edward's birth and his occupation fits too. According to FMP William was baptised in 1715 father's name William and Mary Ridge's baptism was in 1718, father's name Thomas a mason. I don't have either of these two in my tree so that's where the confusion has arisen. William the labourer died in Dec.1750 and Hannah his wife does appear to have died in 1740 (thought it might have been in childbirth!)

Think we might be able to put this to bed now, thankyou all for your input, it's been very helpful.
