Hi is there a website that I would be able to find if my grandfather Clifton Shaw who served in the Royal Navy in both ww… got any medals he was born in Sheffield in 1896 Pitsmoor thank you for for reading
His records are on Ancestry and Forces war records but you need membership to look at them. also https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-records-of-service
I believe the Commonwealth War Graves people should be able to help. I think they have a list of medals earned. I know I turned my two grandfathers info up but years ago.
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ has a couple of records for Clifton Shaw, official number J 16231 Date of birth 22 May 1896, place of birth Sheffield.
One includes names of ships served 1939-1941.
The other, 1914-1926.
Both are also at Ancestry.com
There are some other Discovery records for this name, probably namesakes.
You can ring ministry of defence on tel +44(0)1412243600 or email address is dbs-medals@mod.uk and ask do you no is service number our what navy and the year of service hope it helps from Alan Duncan
