Re: Bertha Thickett born 1880 baptised 1911

Bertha married John Roper an iron smelting furnace stoker in Q1 1900. In 1901 they were living at 8 Aston street, with widowed mother Mary Ann and their two children Winifred (born 3rd March 1897 baptised at St Johns on 25th April) and Gilbert (born 15 September 1900, baptised at St Johns on 3rd October). In 1911 they were at 181 South street Park, with offspring Winifred, Gilbert, Donald (8), Douglas (6) and John's brothers Frank and Charles plus a couple of adult relations Kate Ellen Colk and Robert Charles Colk.

It's not obvious to me why Bertha was baptised at St Lukes in 1911.

Re: Bertha Thickett born 1880 baptised 1911

For the Roper family in 1901 also with them (2nd page) were 4 of Berta's younger siblings.

In 1911 Bertha was 30 yrs old. It is clear that she chose to be baptised. It could be as simple as religious reason.

Cheers Dave and Ted for your input. Now makes sense now and I have found the remaining siblings of Bertha on the other census returns.

I believe Bertha died in 1957 ( do you agree?) but as yet have found no death for John

I have not though found any burial records as of yet.

John Roper burial is in Burials over to the left. Bertha is probably in the same grave but our trancriptions stop short of 1957

Re: Bertha Thickett born 1880 baptised 1911

Presume you mean the one who died in 1945 aged 70. buried in City Road.
