Transcription Error - Burial - Shiregreen Cemetery Sheffield

Hi

Regarding the following transcription relating to a burial in Shiregreen Cemetery in 1947:

MERNEDLE, Eliza (widow, age 90).
Died at 7 Homestead Road; Buried on March 20, 1947 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 6400, Section F of Shiregreen Cemetery, Sheffield.

The above named Eliza married into my somewhat extended family I can assure you her surname should be spelt MERREDLE which is as per the copy of her Death Certificate that I obtained from the GRO a number of year's ago. I expect some unclear handwriting has got in the way when the transcript was done. Could you please check and make the appropriate amendments so your index can be updated..

Thanks for all the efforts made to set up and maintain this amazing website!

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9F6-H51L?i=923&cat=969063
has an index to the Shiregreen burials.
Image 924:
5409 Merredle, Eliza, age 90, March 20 1947.
I can’t work my way around the register which is on another reel, but the record for 5409 is quite clear.

GRO has
MERREDLE, ELIZA age 90
GRO Reference: 1947 M Quarter in SHEFFIELD Volume 02D Page 254

FreeBMD has
Merredle Eliza 90 Sheffield 2d 254

Re: Transcription Error - Burial - Shiregreen Cemetery Sheffield

Hi Philip,

Thank you for your kind comments we do try to keep the site as accurate as possible.

Unfortunately I no longer have the originals but I see from FreeBMD that it does read...

Deaths Mar 1947
Merredle Eliza 90 Sheffield 2d 254

I will certainly change our database.

Elaine.

Hi Elaine

Thanks for updating the Burial Index hopefully that will help others in the future.

Thanks also to Terry for his reply containing a link to the familysearch.org website where I could download a copy of the Burial Register entry.
