Butterworth

Thomas Butterworth married Rhoda Milns 18th April 1808 at St Mary's Church Ecclesfield.

I think there was no father's name mentioned.
Thomas died aged Sept 1828 aged 44.
Buried at Christ Church Cemetery Attercliffe.
So he must have been born 1784.

He was a grinder the family seem to have been fork makers shear strikers etc.

Trying to go back further.
Could anyone tell me who were his parents ?.

I have noticed that there was a John Butterworth an edge tool maker lived at Pea Croft ( Solly Street area ) in 1787.

Wondered if he is connected.

Re: Butterworth

Mark, take a look at Apprentices and Freemen database over to the left. There is a Thomas Butterworth son of Thomas, razor grinder, who was apprenticed to Joshua Butterwworth, razor grinder for 7yrs 8 months in 1798. That means he would be 21 in 1805, so born 1884.
Joshua Butterworth apprenticed a couple of his own sons, Including a John.

Re: Butterworth

Correction, born 1784 not 1884

Re: Butterworth

Hi Dave

There was a John and a Joshua in the family later on. So that seems to fit.

Thanks

Barry

Thanks for the info.
I've made a note of it, just in case connected.

It looks like there are links to Stannington.
Possibly Rochdale area before that.
